Thank you all so much for your efforts this Fourth of July. Despite the amazing heat, and a Wednesday holiday, we managed to hit last year’s numbers. That’s a big deal. And you all made it happen. The line ran smoothly. People were thankful for Rotary, and now we can use the money we earned to help local nonprofits and do good in our community and the world.
You all tirelessly (or sometimes in a really tired fashion) make this happen year after year. So many thanks to Rob Recholtz, Ron Wrobel, Dean Read, and Scott Hammond for leading this year’s charge, but the credit goes to all of you.
As Ron says, “It's truly a chain that is only as strong as its weakest link. All the links were strong and held the chain together. There are over 60 people that I can't thank enough.”
Neither can I.
Thank you for making your holiday be about other people, for your service to your club and to your community. Instead of hanging out in a pool or a lake or with your family, so many of you chose to help on both the 4th, the 3rd, and on the days leading up to the event. That means a lot. It means everything, actually.
We think we might need some changes about volunteer needs on set-up day next year, and so many thanks to those who were there on the 3rd. You did so much work getting things ready.
And finally, many thanks to Martha Abbott as she continues with the Bulletin this year, and to Mike Madell as he takes over webmaster duties. And much love and gratitude to Joe Losquadro for doing both of those jobs for so long and for training Martha and Mike so well. These three are unsung quiet heroes who do the work week after week and to barely any fanfare. Thank you.
Our outside speaker this month is Alison Beane of Island Housing Trust, which promotes year-round housing. It’s an important topic for our island and its sustainability. I hope to see you at Birch Bay at noon on Wednesday!
