Thanks to all Rotarians, family, and friends who attended last week’s meeting. We had the first social meeting of the year at one of our favorite spots. Camaraderie and a good atmosphere were the two essential components of that evening. I took a pic of that night and I have to say it got me thinking about how important our club is, how important membership is, and all that Rotarians do for the community. There are a lot of reasons to join our club and over my almost seven years with the club I have found myself talking to several of you about just that. I have found that members join our club for the following reasons:
Professional Networking: Rotary club members represent a cross-section of the community’s business owners, executives, artists, manager, and professionals – people who make decisions and influence others.
Service Opportunities: Club members have many opportunities for humanitarian service, both locally and internationally. Service programs address concerns such as healthcare, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and the environment.
Friendship: Rotary was founded on fellowship, an ideal that remains a major attraction of membership today. Club members enjoy the camaraderie of our evening meetings or our Fourth of July fundraiser. Also, Rotary club members that travel have friendly contacts in almost every corner of the world.
Good Citizenship: Because Rotarians can make a difference in today’s society.
No matter what the reason is, you are a Rotarian and I hope you continue to remain one. But if you are wondering in what way you can help our membership grow, invite a friend to one of our meetings and let them see how cool we really are.
This Wednesday we are hosting Peter Garrett of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non- profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on a national policy to address climate change. Come and Join us this Wednesday to learn more about this non-profit organization.
