Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members and partners all the best for Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

Thanks for your attendance at our Christmas Function at Esprit de Vie Mermaid Waters on Tuesday 16 December. It was good to welcome Neil Jones back with us during his health battle.

We had an attendance of 29 and we welcomed our partners, plus Edwina Hutchison, Judy Hutchison, Paul Bosch and Ros Byrne, plus Honorary member Uwe.

Thank you to Carol for organising the pre-dinner drinks and nibbles on the Rooftop area. We then enjoyed a 2-course alternate drop main and dessert in the restaurant. The meal was expertly prepared and delivered by the staff from Esprit de Vie and I thank them for their attention to us on the night.

Thank you to Colin Welch for his perseverance and persistence with the Christmas Cake/Pudding order and delivery – a job well done, as well as the Containers for Change which is bringing in a constant income for the club.

Thank you also to the Mobility Scooter minders for checking in on the recipients with a review of the scooters and a drop off of a small gift from the club.

It is with a deal of sadness that we have been advised of the passing of June Milton, wife of Past President and former member Ray Milton.  We join with Ray and the family in expressing our sadness and send them our thoughts and prayers at this time.

This was our last ‘meeting’ for 2025, with our first in the new year being on Tuesday 6 January 2026, at The Hub.

Thank you to Colin Welch for his perseverance and persistence with the Christmas Cake/Pudding order and delivery – a job well done!

Happy Birthday to Noel Hodges for Christmas Eve.

Thanks for a great Rotary Year and looking forward to 2026, with our first fundraising activity being a Bunnings Sizzle on Friday 9 January.

Yours in Rotary,

Neil

Rotary’s new peace center unites fellows on common ground

The peace fellows in the first class at the new Rotary Peace Center in Istanbul came from countries thousands of miles apart but wasted no time coalescing around a shared purpose. These peacebuilders describe their social change initiatives and share their hopes for the future. See the story “Common cause” to meet five peace fellows.
Avenue of Service: Vocational Service
Celebrate Vocational Service Month with Rotary’s updated guide
January is Vocational Service Month, a time to think about how to use our professional skills and ethical standards in meaningful service. Revisit Vocational Service in Action, a practical guide that helps you integrate Vocational Service into your Rotary activities.
This newly updated guide:
  • Defines Vocational Service and its role in promoting integrity and ethical leadership
  • Offers project ideas in mentoring, skills development, and ethical business practices
  • Includes examples of Rotary members using their expertise to serve communities
  • Shows how Vocational Service supports Rotary’s Action Plan
Download the guide and explore how your vocation can become a powerful tool for service.

Fortnightly LAUGHS
Today I saw a dwarf climbing down a prison wall. I thought to myself
That's a little condescending

People who wonder whether the glass is half empty or half full
are missing the point. The glass is refillable.

----------------------------------------------

Q: How does a physicist exercise?
A: By pumping ion!

Q: Why does someone who runs marathons make a good student?
A: Because education pays off in the long run!

Q: What's the biggest moth in the world?
A: A Mammoth!

Q: Why did cavemen draw pictures of hippopotamuses and rhinoceroses on their walls?
A: Because they couldn't spell their names!

Q: What's the problem with lawyer jokes?
A: Lawyer's don't think they're funny, and no one else thinks they're jokes.
