Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

I wish to thank the 14 members plus Honorary Member Uwe for attending and contributing to the Club Forum on Tuesday 1 July 2025.

We enjoyed another great meal prepared by Chef Kouma and his daughter and again we did not go hungry!

We acknowledged the Resignations from our Club of Grahame Werrell (over 50 years), Bob Jordan (38 years) and Malcolm Daviess (17 years) and we thank these members for their dedication and service to our Club and to Rotary and we are sad to see them leave our Club.

I had the pleasure of presenting the Bruce Duncan Fellowship Cup back to Peter Tomlinson – now that it is properly engraved. Barbara Burnheim was particularly chuffed with receiving a small cup to retain as being the winner of the Bruce Duncan Fellowship Cup in 2024. As part of our streamlined meetings going forward, we will now only have a ‘Lucky Door Draw’ and would you believe that Barbara was the lucky winner and maybe will be trying out her new cup when she receives a Bottle of White Wine – well done Barbara.

Items discussed in the Forum included:

o Minimum numbers for catering at meetings are 15

o 2025/2026 Membership Fees have been set at $320 and Invoices will be issued to members for payment

o As part of our meetings going forward, we will only have a “Lucky Door Draw’

o The Rotary DownUnder subscriptions for Honorary Members Frank, Rob and Paul have been discontinued

o The need to ensure that we have adequate participation at our allocated Sausage Sizzles

o The Hub Cleaning Roster has commenced and the purchase of a commercial type mop has so far been successful

o Alternative usage of The Hub by other groups

o Possible Combined Meeting with other Rotary Clubs

o No subsidisation of Christmas Party and Changeover Dinner costs, with the full cost to be paid by members

o Greater involvement by members in providing presentations of Member Behind the Badge at meetings

o Treasurer Noel expressed concern at the Club’s Financial Position where we have incurred deficits on our Community Account and how we can arrest this issue. Noel was also concerned about the ongoing viability of the Club.

o A review of the Mobility Scooter Program is to be undertaken with a view of submitting a Grant Application to the Queensland Community Benefit Fund to upgrade the Mobility Scooter Fleet

I thank all members for their contribution to Broadbeach Rotary and look forward to a great 2025/2026 Rotary Year where the Theme is UNITE FOR GOOD.

See you at our Fellowship Meeting on Tuesday 15 July 2025.

Yours in Rotary

Neil
