Fellow Rotarians & Friends

It was nice to see more of our members back for the meeting to hear Mia Gosselin speak about her experience at RYTS a few months ago. Gareth Hunt, the District RYTS chair, also attended our meeting and introduced Mia as well as Mia’s parents.
We celebrated John Curr’s 80th Birthday with a lovely chocolate mud cake. Fortunately there was enough left over to send some home with Russ who has a lot of visitors at the moment.
Harold is preparing a draft of our article which is to be in the July issue of RDU so if anyone has material to submit, please liaise with Harold.
Each Rotary year at this time we ask you to vote for a member you consider worthy of being awarded the Bruce Duncan Fellowship Cup.
The criteria to consider when voting for a member includes but is not limited to:
  • Attendance
  • Fellowship with other Members
  • Service work
  • Fund raising efforts
  • Communication
The rules are as follows:
  • The cup can be won by the same member on more than one occasion but not in consecutive years.
  • Attendance at the District Conference is no longer part of the criteria for consideration.
  • You can only vote for one person.
The Cup is an important part of our Club and will be presented at the Changeover Dinner. Please send your vote to me (peter.dimond@bigpond.com) by 29 May.

Until next time
Yours in Rotary
Peter

FROM OUR MEETING 17 MAY 2022

Scribe: Bob Jordan

A very  good  night  attended  by 23  people.  Our  guest  speaker, Mia  Gosselin was our  RYTS participant who  was  there  with her  parents Tyrone and Kana Gosselin. Other  guests  included   Alan  McNeill  and Gareth  Hunt  and    Rob Haines,a guest  looking  at  Rotary

Sergeant  Neil  opened  the  meeting  right on 6.30  and  welcomed  all  those  attending .President  Peter   then  gave  his  welcome  and  outlined  the  evening.

Dinner  was    served,  followed  by   a  special   dessert  to  celebrate  John  Curr’s  80th  birthday. While  all  the  cake  cutting  and  passing  around  was  happening Sergeant  Neil  was  separating  everyone  from their   money although  to be  fair  we  escaped  reasonably  lightly.

Heads and  tails  was  won  by our  special  guest   Mia  and  the raffle by Alex Jorden.

Mia   gave  an  informative  address  on her RYTE’S visit  and  thanked  the  club  for  their  sponsorship .Unfortunately  the  hotel’s  speaker  system  decided  to  expire  halfway  through  her  address  and  it  was  difficult to hear.

President  Peter  thanked  Mia  for her  address  and  donated  the  customary  club  gift  to our guest  speakers.

After  some  questions   from  the  audience President  Peter closed the meeting at  7.35 p.m.

“What hit me?” spluttered the student.

Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool, so I gave him a glass of water.

Take my advice — I'm not using it.
