Another great and enjoyable meeting of Broadbeach Rotary held at The Hub on 1 October.

Chef Kouma continues to test our eating abilities with another excellent Greek Feast – really appreciated by all present.

We welcomed Guests Adele Wegner and Barbara Burnheim, Partners Helen, Desley and Denise and Honoray Member Uwe.

The fellowship leading up to the meeting was great and it was good to see everyone at the meeting.

We were fairly informal in our meeting and the Lucky Winner of the Raffle was Guest Adele and Heads and Tails (on first throw) Neil Jones – congratulations to both.

We discussed the possibility of a Movie night and this will be further investigated.

Uwe formally introduced Adele, a resident of Lady Small Haven for 26 years and a Scooter recipient. We heard from Adele as she told us the story of selling her vehicle, then advising her family that she again had 4 wheels underneath her, which caused some consternation within the family. It all turned out well when Adele sent the family a photo of her Mobility Scooter. The Scooter has provided her a deal of independence and Uwe and Cec are the resident minders who look after Adele.

There are currently 6 Mobility Scooters utilised by residents at Lady Small Haven, with parking and charging bays provided in the car park.

Adele is familiar with service organisations having been a member of CWA when she and her husband ventured to Western Queensland. She is also very aware of the work of Rotary and extremely thankful for the provision of the Mobility Scooter. Adele also provided a Thank You Card to the Club for the provision of the Mobility Scooter and we gratefully accepted her donation towards the use of the Scooter.

It was gratifying to hear from a very satisfied and thankful Mobility Scooter recipient and special thanks to Uwe for conveying Adele to and from the meeting.

 

Grahame Werrell spoke of his experiences of now being a Unit occupier and I also spoke of our ‘moving’ experience and living within a construction zone, with all construction hopefully completed by November.

 

Future planning sees No Meeting on Melbourne Cup Day, a Fellowship Meeting on 19 November, AGM plus a Guest Speaker on 3 December and our Christmas Get Together at Esprit de Vie on Tuesday 17 December.

October 24 is also World Polio Day.
