President’s Report 9th June 2020

This will be my last report as your President.
I will be away from the Coast on the 23rd June, the next listed Zoom date, and Neil Baldwin has kindly agreed to chair the meeting.
We had approximately 20 Rotarians attend our last Tuesday meeting with apologies from Kevin O’Brien, Nasser and Nayer Kaviani, Malcolm Daviess, John Curr , Bob Jordan and Ian Cowen.
Once again, thanks to Jim for arranging the Zoom meetings.
It was my pleasure to officially welcome Rock O’Keefe to our Club and I know his continuing Rotary involvement, expertise and experience will greatly benefit our Club and our District.
President Elect Les discussed his vision and offered suggestions for members to consider for the incoming year.
Despite COVID 19, with restrictions imposed, and our Club’s temporary loss of income revenue, I know Les will provide strong and enjoyable leadership during his year as President.
Tuesday the 14th of July at the Hub has been set for the change over.
Work on the ‘flat pack’ building at the Men’s Shed, Arundel for Pentecost Island is now in ‘full swing’.
Last Saturday, President Mario Fairlie of Surfers Sunrise RC presented certificates of appreciation to Neil Aitkenhead from Premier Timber and Trusses for his donation of material for the Pentecost building and to Brian Ross from Diesel Services Queensland for his donation of a container to ship the building to Pentecost.
Photographs of these presentations, the Shed and some of the workers involved are in this issue of Rotarlight.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Board and members of our Club for your support and encouragement throughout my year as President.
It has been a privilege to serve you and Rotary.

SECRETARY REPORT - Les Bulluss

Last Tuesday saw the final board meeting of the 19-20 Rotary year. What a year it has been, if you told me in January that by March 2020 our borders would be closed, virtual lock downs in place and working from home the new norm I would have scoffed. I thank President Graham for his stewardship of our club during his year, the Pentecost project will change so many lives for the better and it will be a legacy that outlives us all! Thank you to the 19-20 board for your support as well, very much appreciated.

Neil Baldwin is the incoming Secretary, a steady and experienced hand, I am looking forward to my year as President and working with the incoming board. The great unknown of post COVID has put a lot of plans on hold, but I’m confident that the club will continue to thrive and hold its self-appointed premier reputation as the greatest Rotary Club on earth!

I enjoyed being secretary, I think for someone who has not been President previously, it's an excellent preparatory year to learn the business. I thank every member for their support, it has been very much appreciated.

The changeover dinner being held at the Hub on 14 July, promises to be an excellent evening, I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in person , rather than virtually on Zoom. The first board meeting will be on 7 July and we will ratify the budget and membership fees then.

You will have read that President Elect Les has appointed Bob Jordan as Almoner for 2020/21

Bob has requested that members aware of members/member's partners/past members who are ill etc. advise him. Bob will contact them as appropriate and keep the club updated through regular reports at club meetings and this segment in the Rotarlight.

A big, burly man visited the pastor’s home and asked to see the minister’s wife, a woman well known for her charitable impulses.

They are about to be turned out onto the cold, empty streets unless someone pays their rent, which amounts to $400.”
“How terrible!” exclaimed the preacher’s wife. “May I ask who you are?”
The sympathetic visitor applied his handkerchief to his eyes. “I’m the landlord,” he sobbed.

A man and a woman were sitting beside each other in the first-class section of a jet liner.
The woman sneezed, took out a tissue, gently wiped her nose, then visibly shuddered for ten or fifteen seconds.
The man went back to his reading.
A few minutes later, the woman sneezed again, took a tissue, wiped her nose, then shuddered quite violently once more.

Assuming the woman might have a cold, the man was still curious about the shuddering.
A few more minutes passed when the woman sneezed yet again. As before, she took a tissue, wiped her nose, her body shaking even more than before.
Unable to restrain his curiosity, the man turned to the woman, and said, "I couldn't help but notice that you've sneezed three times, wiped your nose, then shuddered violently. Are you okay?"
"Sorry if I disturbed you," the woman replied. "I have a very rare medical condition; whenever I sneeze, I have an orgasm."
The man, more than a bit embarrassed, was still curious. "I've never heard of that condition before," he said. "Are you taking anything for it?"
"Yes," the woman nodded. "Pepper."
