I’m sorry I missed barefoot bowls last Tuesday. Unfortunately, I was slightly ill that day, all better now, but didn’t want to be out and about. Thank you to Robyn and Peter for your organisation, I’m told that the sporting prowess of many was on show and the spirit of the ‘Crackajack’ movie is alive and well!
Thank you to Surfers Sunrise who have a COVID Safe Plan in place for their shed. I’ve modified for the Hub, we need to endorse as a board and undertake some signage actions, then we are compliant. That means once endorsed and the signage in place, we are right to gather there once again for meetings.
The first will be the October 27 International Night that Nayer and Nasser are planning as part of the Foundation portfolio. Watch this space in that regard!
I’ve spoken to the German Club about meeting there in October on a Tuesday night as part of Oktoberfest. They are only opening on Fridays & Saturdays from 5pm and Sundays from 12pm ( Lunch only) and the first Thursday of each month. It may be an option for us in 2021. The October visit to Surfers Police Headquarters will also have to be postponed due to COVID restrictions.
Thank you also to Dr Graham attending Surfers Sunrise Shed last weekend and to those who are at the working bee this weekend. The joint event in November at their shed will be discussed in the coming weeks once I have some more details.
I spoke to Ian Cowen earlier in the week and passed on the clubs best wishes to him and Gay. I am looking forward to seeing him back at a meeting soon.
Yong has agreed to manage the social media for the Club which is very much appreciated. I look forward to the Facebook page once again coming alive with goings on. There is so much potential to reach the community through social media, marketing the great work that the club and Rotary International achieves.
This Tuesday is DG Andy’s official visit to the club, please register for the evening.
Until next week.
Yours in Rotary
Les

A good roll up of 32 members and guests for our bowling night at Mermaid Beach Bowling Club.
There were more spectators than bowlers and the cooler evening kept most of the spectators inside the club. The bowls included the usual mixture of short, long and wide deliveries mixed with the occasional toucher and even some on the wrong bias but all participants had a most enjoyable evening.
A few drinks and dinner in the Bistro capped off a good night. Thanks to Robyn & Peter for their organisation of the event.

A senior citizen drove his brand new car out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 120 kph, enjoying the power of the car . “Amazing,”he thought as he flew down the M1, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a highway patrol car, blue lights flashing and siren blaring.
He floored it to 140 kph, then 180kph, then suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this!” and pulled over to await the copper’s arrival. Pulling in behind him, the copper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the car.
He looked at his watch, then said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a new reason for speeding – a reason I’ve never before heard – I’ll let you go..”
The old gentleman paused then said, “Thirty three years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman, I thought you were bringing her back.” “Have a good day, Sir,” replied the copper.

A visitor to a certain college paused to admire the new Hemingway Hall that had been built on campus.
"It's a pleasure to see a building named for Ernest Hemingway," he said.
"Actually," said his guide, "it's named for Joshua Hemingway. No relation."
The visitor was astonished. "Was Joshua Hemingway a writer, also?"
"Yes, indeed," said his guide. "He wrote a large cheque."

A mother and father had just given their teenage daughter family-car privileges. On Saturday night she returned home very late from a party.
The next morning her father went out to the driveway to get the newspaper and came back into the house frowning. In the middle of the day, the girl sleepily walked into the kitchen and her father asked her: “Sweetheart, what time did you get in last night?”
“Not too late, Dad,” she replied nervously.
Dead-panned, her father said: “Then, my precious one, I’ll have to talk with the paperboy about putting my paper under the front tyre of the car.”

Q: What do you get when you cross an elephant and a fish?
A: Swimming trunks!
Q: What starts with an E and ends with E, but only contains one letter?
A: An envelope!
Q: Why should bowling alleys be quiet?
A: So you can hear a pin drop!
