Sergeant David opened the meeting and introduced President Andrew who welcomed the small group in attendance.
Acting Administration Director Bob provided an update on sausage sizzles and briefly discussed the availability of Club shirts.
The Sergeant's session focused on the recent coronation of King Charles III. David posed a series of difficult questions which saw all in attendance paying dearly for their failing memory.
Pauline won the door prize and Harold won Heads and Tails.
Treasurer Neil spoke to a PowerPoint presentation on the Club's financial outcomes ytd 30 April. He outlined the fixed commitments the club has each year and how these have been funded, both through the Administration account and the Project account.
Administration expenses totaling $20,337 to end April have been covered by income $20,708. The Club's 50th Anniversary Celebrations were subsidised by $1,535.
Fixed Project related expenses total $7,660.
These were funded by sausage sizzles - 16 conducted ytd with net sales income $12,993.
Gold Coast Volunteering provided 16 volunteer workers for which we donated $2,130 to them reducing proceeds available for club use to $10,863.
Project funds have also been boosted this year by $2,815 from sale of surplus mobility scooters.
Club funds on hand at 30 April totaled $12,332.
After questions Neil provided an update on the Malaria Vaccine Project for which Broadbeach is one of the sponsor clubs and Neil is the Treasurer.
Since inception the project has raised $2,472,862 which will fully fund it to completion of Phase I Human Clinical Trials later this year. The next step is Phase II Clinical Trials in an endemic country with an estimated cost well in excess of $10m requiring a entirely new approach to fundraising and a new strategy is now being developed in conjunction with Griffith University,
In the short term the project team are working towards a Global Grant to fund a Postdoctoral Scholar to work in the project for two years at a cost of $280k.
Griffith university will fund half of this leaving the team $140k to raise via the Global Grant.
To date $120k of this has been raised/pledged leaving $20k to find and Neil sought support from the club proposing a $2k donation. This received full support from all present and David O'Dwyer donated $500 to increase this to $2,500.
This donation will take the Club's contribution to the Malaria Vaccine Project to $18k, the fourth largest from our District.
