Another great meting at the HUB with 17 members and 6 guests in attendance.
A generous amount of nibblies welcomed pre dinner socializing supported by barman extraordinaire John Curr.
Sergeant Grahame opened the meeting and introduced VP Pauline. In the absence of President Peter, VP Pauline chaired the meeting in her normal high standard and welcomed the following guests, Pat Curr, Desley Daviess, Christine Jones, Kathy Lewis, Roslyn Tomlinson and Joan O’Keefe and our two Honorary members Kevin & Uwe.
Secretary Tony aided and abetted an interesting night by bringing along some items from his treasure chest for Pauline to conduct a show you know quiz.
Kevin knew what an egg scale looked like……Peter, John and Ros remembered the tiger in your tank commercial……No one was able to correctly identify the kitchen appliance (shame girls)……….and only Tony knew what a piece of the White Cliffs of Dover looks like having almost fell over the cliffs breaking off a piece of the stone to souvenir.
A generous roast chicken dinner followed by a delicious dessert was prepared and served by Chris and his team.
Sergeant Grahame conducted a fine session where all attendees were guilty of something/anything and made to pay $1 each. With no raffle it was two session of heads and tails, winners being Rock O’Keeffe and Roslyn Tomlinson.
President Elect Andrew focused our attention on a number of important Rotary dates…..
On the 29th May members are encouraged to attend a Learning & development day at Alstonville high school. This new format replaces the old District Assembly and promises to provide some great ideas to take our club forward.
31st May we go outside the normal and meet with S.P.G lawyers in their rooms for an update on all things important to us senior citizens ( yep there have been a lot of changes to a number of laws so it’s a good opportunity to refocus). Dinner to follow at Gold Coast Tavern.
Andrew also encouraged members to participate in the Silver Circle promotion to raise funds for the club and who knows, you might win $500.
In the absence of a guest speaker Sergeant Grahame conducted a quiz with focus on Gold Coast developments/history over a number of decades. Not sure where he got the 400 questions from but they were certainly well researched and surprisingly there was a lot of knowledge in the room. No prizes but a lot of fun….Thanks Grahame.
On closing the meeting VP Pauline moved a vote of thanks to the team responsible for the HUB cleanup in preparation for the meeting….Peter & Ros Tomlinson,, John Curr,,Neil Jones and Rock O’Keefe.
