FROM LAST WEEK'S MEETING - 2nd August 2016
First time Sergeant Graham Sivyer welcomed all in attendance and opened the meeting calling upon Kevin O'Brien to propose his chosen toast.
Kevin proposed a toast to the Australian Olympic Team and mentioned that Australia is one of only two countries which has competed at all Olympic Games albeit at the first games in 1896, the Commonwealth of Australia had not been formed and in 1908 and 1912 we combined with New Zealand competing as Australasia.
Our best wishes go to all those representing our wonderful country.
President Bruce welcomed members and guests with a special welcome to Honorary Member, Uwe and guest speakers, Peter & Sharon Crean and their daughter Liz.
Malcolm Daviess reminded those rostered for the sausage sizzle to alert him should there be a need for change and not make changes to the roster themselves. Malcolm also reminded those on the second shift to ensure that the takings for the day are passed on to Treasurer Peter Dimond the following Tuesday night and the figure is also provided in writing to staff at Bunnings for passing to Grace.
After last week drawing his own number, Bob Jordan had Sharon Crean draw the Silver Circle this week. Lucky winner was President Bruce.
Noel Hodges outlined some tasks to be undertaken at the Hub and items to be purchased to enhance operations and requested members to advise him of any suggestions they may have in this area.
Neil Jones advised that the Rotarlight team are continuing to refine the content of the weekly bulletin and in this regard request that all members contribute articles and relative information wherever possible. In this regard it is intended that a member profile be published each week and will commence with Pauline Armstrong, followed by Neil Baldwin. The member being featured is to write their own profile including whatever information they wish to share (no more than one A4 page) and email to the Rotarlight team no later than Friday for inclusion in the bulletin which will issue on Sunday.
The next six contributors will be listed each week along with the door roster.
Neil also proposed that each member act as scribe for one meeting this year writing up an outline of the meeting and emailing that to the Rotarlight team by Friday after the meeting. Again, a roster will be included in the bulletin and members rostered should make contact with the Rotarlight Team (Andrew Mills, Noel Hodges, Neil Jones & Tony Lewis) if there is any problem with the date allocated.
Sergeant's Session was appropriately introduced with a Doctor joke.

The highlight was the fine imposed on all those past Rotarians in the room - Graham explained that 2016/2017 subs were now overdue and asked those present who have not yet paid to stand and pay.
Guest Speakers
President Bruce introduced Pete and Sharon Crean, co-founders of BeyondWater, a charity that provides clean drinking water and sanitation facilities across East Africa. Starting in 2007 they have improved the lives of over 100,000 people. Both were born in New Zealand, married in 1987, moved to Sydney in 2002 and based in Nairobi, Kenya since 2012. They are members of the Rotary Club of Nairobi Lavington and in 2013 received a Rotary Humanitarian Award for their work in Africa. Current fundraising trip takes in New Zealand, Australia and Dubai.

"The Girl Project"
Reaching puberty is something to be feared for most girls as they cannot afford sanitary products.
The result is many miss months of schooling putting them at further disadvantage
Giving girls sanitary packs is an effective way to help break the poverty cycle
Immediate target is to get 3,000 girls involved and challenging groups to contribute $1,000 to this project.
President Bruce received unanimous support from the members for the club to donate $1,000 and in thanking Pete & Sharon was able to handover our cheque.
