Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

President Ron and Allison are currently in Japan so I stood in as chair for the evening. Earlier, Councillor Brooke Patterson had met with some board members regarding a grant application to be submitted to council regarding upgrading the hub. The major areas of concern are the lack disability access, improved flooring and the cladding of the internal walls and ceiling. The council provides grants for organisations supporting multicultural groups so our association with Gold Coast Magic qualifies us. Neil Jones will be submitting the grant application for a minimum of $100,000.

The meeting was well attended and Harold gave a brief outline of the grant application to members. Peter Tomlinson also spoke to offer his fascinating enterprise for a visit to be followed by dinner at the Clocktower. The date for this will be advised. Neil Jones then reminded members of the up coming visit to Japan next April to visit our sister club. He also asked that members consider supporting the Surfers Paradise club’s race day on September the 5th. Please contact Neil if you are able to go.

Colin advised the club that they need to decide on their orders for Christmas cakes and puddings. There was quite some confusion last year so he is getting in early. He also asked members to save the date for the Trivia night on September 29th. It promises to be a night of fun and fellowship so he of asked that we invite as many people as possible to ensure the success of the evening. He also reminded the club of the sausage sizzle this Friday.

The Rotary club of Broadwater North has invited us to a Community Evening at the Dublin Docks on August 26th. This will be an evening of connection, conversation and community. Our club has mentioned doing something similar in the past so it would be interesting to see how effective it is in promoting Rotary. Tickets can be obtained via Trybooking.

Kumar provided a lovely meal as always and Noel Hodges was the lucky raffle winner.

Yours in Rotary.

VP Pauline.

EVER WONDER

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin
Why don't you ever see the Headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'
Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word
Why is it that Doctors call what they do 'practice'
Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavour, and dishwashing liquid made   with real lemons
Why is the man who  invests all your money called a broker
Why is the time of  day with the slowest traffic called rush hour
Why isn't there mouse-flavoured cat food
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of Pro, is Congress the opposite of progress
If flying is so Safe, why do they call the airport the terminal
