Fellow Rotarians and Friends.

Twenty four members and guests attended our meeting last Tuesday night to hear the Pentecost update from PP Dr Graham Sivyer. The project exemplifies what Rotary is about.  When completed it will make such a difference to the quality of life for so many Vanuatuans.  It’s wonderful that our club has partnered with Surfers Sunrise and Gold Coast to deliver the hospital project, a true legacy for years to come.  Be very proud Dr Graham!

It was lovely to see Edwina Hutchison and potential member Luella Smith along as well.  Luella has a wealth of fundraising and board skills and I look forward to inducting her in the coming weeks.

This Saturday at their Arundel Shed as you know, Rotary Surfers Sunrise is celebrating the completion and shipping of their 10,000th Wheelchair on Saturday 14th November. It would be great if there was a good turnout from members where the Vanuatu X-Ray Unit (which Broadbeach has contributed significant funds) is currently under construction. It will be a big day promoting Rotary.  Bunnings have donated vouchers to be used as the raffle prize.

PP and Scooter Chair Harold Busch updated the club on the management of the program and update on the management structure.  Thank you to all involved in ensuring the ongoing viability of the clubs flagship project.  The program structure risk mitigates the project, future proofing its viability.

I am attending the 9640 AGM this Sunday via Zoom.  It must be the AGM season, as ours is next Tuesday.  Some members advised they had not received the notice and papers by email.  It has been sent three times via ClubRunner.  If you haven’t, please check your spam folders. PP Neil Jones will chair the AGM, thank you Neil.  Following the AGM, we’ll have a club assembly just to check where things are at, including an update on the finances.

The planning for the Christmas function is progressing nicely, thank you to Robyn for managing what is sure to be a wonderful evening. The cost will be $25 per person, please RSVP early when requested.

Our donation to Polio Plus is over $1300, inclusive of the movie night profits.  A great contribution. November is Foundation Month with the Hub function on 1 December profits going to that cause. Appreciation to Foundation Directors Nayer and Nasser who have managed the cake and puddings orders.

Yours in Rotary

Les

WEEKLY LAUGHS

Went to a restaurant last night , was asked if I wouldn’t mind waiting for a while , I said that’s ok , he said would I start with tables 15 and 17…
-----------------------------------------------------

I like the word "indolence." It makes my laziness seem classy.

These days the only thing I take seriously in the newspapers are fish and chips. And even that I take with pinch of salt.

Of all the things life has given me...  I would like to return 20 kgs…

My old man used to say: “The first rule of theatre is to always leave them wanting more.”    Lovely bloke – terrible anaesthetist.
