Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

It was good to be back to Rotary after our South African sojourn. Thanks to Ron for looking after the meetings during my absence.

Great to see a good turnout for our Fellowship Meeting and particularly encouraging to welcome Past President Ray Milton and Past Member Peter Sutton, as well as Honorary Members Kevin and Uwe to the meeting. Kouma again provided an excellent 3 course meal – we are certainly well looked after in the food area.

Lucky Door winners were Neil Jones and David O’Dwyer – well done. Thanks to Cec for looking after the door and Bill behind the bar and the members who assist with the set up and clean up for the meeting.

We discussed the Changeover Dinner and decided on Tuesday 2 June 2026 with a Country Theme and I am confident that we will hear more from Ron as we get closer to this event.

Just a reminder about the Tri-District Conference at Royal Pines from 1 to 3 May 2026 and members are encouraged to register.

Ray Milton has expressed his thanks to all members of the Club for their support following the passing of wife June.

A special thank you to all the members (and family members) who attended The Hub Working Bee on Saturday 21 February 2026. We also had Richard from Burleigh Heads Club helping out. A great team effort that certainly made The Hub building and surrounds look a great deal better. Helen made sure we were well fed. Thanks to Harold and Ron for coordinating the day as well as the members who provided their trailers and utes for the cleanup. Special acknowledgment to Andrew and Sarah for the Transfer Station runs and to Bill Waller – whipper snipper extraordinaire!

Next Meeting – 3 March our Guest Speaker is Councillor Darren Taylor and then 17 March representatives from Department of Primary Industries will provide a presentation on the Control of Fire Ants.

See you at our next meeting.

Yours In Rotary Service,

Neil

President

More free, cheap health advice.... The Importance of Walking

Walking can add minutes to your life. When you reach 85 years-of-age, walking will have enabled you to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking 5 miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

I joined a health club last year, spent about $400. I haven't lost a pound.  Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they say, 'Well, she looks great doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years, just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour and by the time I leave, I look just fine.
