President’s Report following 20 August 2024 Meeting

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

Our 20 August Fellowship night was an enjoyable meeting with 13 in attendance including Honorary member Kevin O’Brien, former members Rock OKeefe and Barbara Burnheim, plus Alex Jorden.
Another great 3 course meal provided by Chef Kouma, which he prepares through our kitchen at The Hub.
We had a pretty relaxed evening particularly noting Birthdays for Neil Jones and Kevin O’Brien as well as Wedding Anniversaries of Andrew and Narelle and Noel and Kay. It is also a particular important time for Kevin as he also celebrates being inducted on his Birthday many years ago.
For our Club 22 August is an important date as that is the date in 1972 of the Club being Chartered.
Rock provided an update on the Pentecost Island Project, having recently returned from Vanuatu for the Hospital handover. Unfortunately, they could not travel to Pentecost Island as a previous Charter flight had crashed, plus the demise of Air Vanuatu, but the Handover was performed at the High Commission in Port Vila. The Hospital building and its associated equipment has been greatly appreciated by the locals.
Harold provided an update on our tenants Gold Coast Magic with a number of Federal, State and Local Politicians visiting the work of Gold Coast Magic and have all been extremely complimentary of The Hub.
Bill Rex conducted the Raffle and the Heads and Tails, with the lucky winners being Alex Jorden and Pauline Armstrong – congratulations.
All in all, a relaxed evening with plenty of fellowship.
Next Meeting 3 September will be the visit of our District Governor Lisa Hunt, Husband Gareth and a YEP student being hosted from Ukraine. Promises to be an interesting meeting. Following the club meeting will be Board meeting.
I am also trying to organise a night at the Robina Tafe Restaurant which will hopefully occur early in November.

Have a great time until our next meeting and enjoy the weather.

Yours in Rotary

Neil

Introducing the Service Project Center, our new project management platform!
The Service Project Center, Rotary’s new hub for everything related to service, is now live. It gives you a better way to manage and share information about service projects.

With service networking moving to this new platform, Rotary Showcase has been retired. All Rotary and Rotaract projects that were posted on Rotary Showcase have been migrated to the Service Project Center, which is being released in phases.

The initial features include:
  • Improved speed and performance
  • A more consistent user experience across different devices and screen sizes
  • The ability to collect more accurate project location data
  • Project management access for all club officers

WEEKLY LAUGHS

I notice that as I am getting older, I am becoming much stronger.
I can now lift a bag of $150 worth of groceries, and I never used to be able to do that!

I put a marquee in my garden, with flashing lights and funky music!
Now is the hour of my disco tent.

Last night a bloke tried to break into my house and pinch some fruit.
I’m peachless

Did you hear about the man who bought a sleeping bag ?
He spent two hours trying to wake it up.

New restaurant on the moon. The food is fabulous, but there's no atmosphere.

Who ever invented 'autocorrect', should burn in Hello.!

There was an explosion at the flour factory. Police are sifting for clues.

She was only a moonshiner's daughter, but I miss her still.

What do you call a pig with laryngitis? Disgruntled.

Scientists got together to study the effects of alcohol on a person’s walk, and the result was staggering.

I lost my job as a stage designer. I left without making a scene.

Why is it unwise to share your secrets with a clock? Well, time will tell.

I’m having some friends round this evening and we’re going to sit and look at our  phones!

I’m going to work on being less condescending.
(Condescending means to talk down to people)

My next door neighbour just knocked on my door with her dinner in her hands.  With Facebook and Instagram down she wanted me to see what she was having.

I’m just on my way to fix Cat Stevens’ caravan.   ...Awning has broken.

Interesting Trivia
Where's the worlds coldest place?

On the high ridge of the East Antarctic Plateau the temperature can drop to as low as -135.8 degrees Fahrenheit, which was recorded in August, 2010.
