Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

Vice Presidents Report ADG Neil 8 /10/19.
We may have been small in number at our meeting, but there was great fellowship and friendship experienced before we entered the meeting and the meal that was provided probably stopped a number of us, with it’s size.
David O’Dwyer provided an update on the health of Russ and Ian and we wish both of them a speedy recovery and that they are able to return to normal Rotary activities shortly.
Bob also reported on the Sausage Sizzle Roster and if any changes are required, can they please be channelled through Bob, so he is aware of the updated roster. Malcolm Daviess was also reaffirmed as the Club Almoner and if members are aware of any other member not experiencing the best of health, can they please advise Malcolm, so as he can follow up and report back to the club.
Our Guest Speaker – Creative Director of Sonokids – Phia Damsma was a very interesting speaker – Sonokids have innovative applications that support blind or visually impaired young people in learning essential digital skills. Phia’s presentation was great and she is an exceptional person, having been awarded a number of awards and is able to speak 7 languages, as well as being a member of Broadbeach Inner Wheel Club. It was interesting to learn that the NDIS does not cover the type of work that Sonokids is able to offer. It was noted that the Apps sell for $2.99 and make a fantastic change to blind and visually impaired children – we were able to see that graphically in the presentation. The presentation was well received and it was encouraging to hear the questions raised from the members.
Have a great week and President Graham and Past President Denis will be back from their view of the project in Vanuatu and should be able to provide a ‘from the ground’ review of the project at the meeting of 15 October.
Yours in Rotary
Neil

SECRETARY REPORT - Les Bulluss,
Letter, from District Governor: Harry J Bolton
9 October 2019,
Dear Presidents and Members Drought and Bush Fire Support I am writing to you all to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the wonderful generosity and support that you have shown toward our communities impacted by drought and bushfire over the past 12 months and in some cases longer. Your generosity has been responsible for providing much needed potable water and other resources to many families and schools on the Tablelands, Granite Belt and Darling Downs and this effort will continue for several more months or until the situation changes for the better. I know that many of our clubs have plans to arrange further fund-raising events to help with this cause and I am very grateful for your efforts, however, with the recent events in the Casino area and devastating fires at Rappville, I would like to suggest that where you have not allocated funds that you think of these communities also, as they will be in need of support in the near future. I know that Government assistance for people who are affected by a bushfire disaster is quick and direct with immediate needs met within a reasonable time frame. Unfortunately, this assistance will not cover everything, and there will be people who will require our support. This has been an extraordinary year and summer is still not with us. As I have discussed with many of you during my club visits, the support we offer our communities in times of difficulty is the most valuable and rewarding thing that we can do as an organisation and individual clubs. I thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter.

Yours in Rotary Service

                                                 Working with the general public.

20 years as owner of Benowa Gardens Newsagency I have meet some wonderful people. I have watched many young school kids grow up marry and have children of their own. Each week I have the delight of meeting someone new who will become more than just a customer. I wish I had a diary with all the funny things people have said to me.  I have also had many strange requests  and here are a few of the classics
Can I please have the winning scratchie as I only want the winning ones
Why don’t you sell the Sunday paper anymore ? (Because its Saturday)
What is the powerball  number going to be tonight ?
How much will 4 $5 scratchies cost ?
Do you think it will rain in Brisbane on the weekend ?
Are the flights running on time from Coolangatta airport?
Are the $5 scratchies still $5 ?
If I win lotto nothing in my life would change (I said don’t buy a ticket.)
I love it when someone will ask me for directions but then they will ask are you sure ?

The latest this week was  from a guy who was travelling to Bali and wanted to buy a marriage licence so he could have sex with his girlfriend. I told him we had just sold out but have a dog licence.
Every day someone will make me laugh with a strange question

Bob Jordan announced that Malcolm Davies has been appointed as the Almoner and members are now advise that Malcolm will be the contact point  to advise of unwell members.
In order to avoid confusion Bob mentioned that Rosters are not to be changed unless he is advised in writing of the changes.
Bunyips for the night were John Curr and Noel Hodges and the raffle was won by Robyn whilst Head and Tails by John Curr.
Vice President Neil then introduced our guest speaker Phia Damsma, Creative Director Sonokids and Ballyland. Her presentation was about her passion and desire to put a smile on vision impaired children by the use The question that she asked was “ how do you measure success- is it about the money or about putting a smile on the face of a child with a disability.” Through out her career she has received numerous awards and National recognition including in 2013 a Rotary District 9640 Rotary Inspirational Women’s award, Gold Coast women business award.
She displayed all access of visually impaired children. Her focus was being able to access technology via Applications including Robotic programming. An application has been designed to use voice recognition to activate and access the internet and various learning programs including her world famous Ballyland character toys which assist visually impaired children with social interaction and communication skills. WEEKLY LAUGHS.
Twitter is starting another messaging app for politicians called “Trumpeter.”

The problem with political jokes is they get elected.

Politicians are the same all over.  They promise to build a bridge even where there is no river.

When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm beginning to believe it.

Why pay money to have your family tree traced; go into politics and your opponents will do it for you.

I offer my opponents a bargain: if they will stop telling lies about us, I will stop telling the truth about them.

Instead of giving a politician the keys to the city, it might be better to change the locks.

My husband worked with a carpenter who they called Lightening, not for the reason you may think, but because he couldn’t hammer a nail in straight...... lightening never strikes twice in the same place.

I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave.
As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin.
3 hours later and they're still walking about with it.
I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!!

My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our
local pet shop and they were $70:00
Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.

Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarfs are not Happy.

My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30am this morning,
can you believe that 2:30am?
Luckily for him, I was still up playing my Bagpipes.

Paddy was a youthful and hardworking Irishman at a Coastal village in Ireland.
Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works. He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time.

Sadly, Paddy did not realise the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart.

One day he failed to come home, so his wife contacted the Police to investigate him being missing.

They rowed out and found Paddy dead in the punt beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he'd tried to hoist aboard.

Headlines next day in the 'Irish Times Newspaper' said........................................
 Wait for it!

OYSTERS KILPATRICK !!!!

A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey, I have been asked to fly to
Cairns with my boss and several of his friends for fishing.. We'll be gone for
a long weekend. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I've
been wanting so could you please pack enough clothes for a 3 day
weekend".....
And also would you get out my rod and tackle box from the attic ?
We're leaving at 4:30 pm from the office and I will swing by the house to pick
my things up..
'Oh! And please pack my new navy blue silk pajamas..'
The wife thinks this sounds a bit odd, but, being the good wife,
She does exactly what her husband asked.
Following the long weekend he came home a little tired, but, otherwise, looking
good. The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught many fish?
He says, 'Yes! Lots of Bream, some Bass, and a few Pike.
He said but why didn't you pack my new blue silk pajamas like I asked you to
do?
You'll love the answer………
The wife replies, "I did, they're in your tackle box".

"Johnny", says the teacher, "you have your

The kid looks up puzzled "But Miss,
these are the only feet I have"
