Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

With some sadness this is my last meeting notes report after serving as President of Broadbeach Rotary Club for the last 2 years.

Great to have an attendance of 21 at our meeting with Guests Edwina Hutchison and Neil Walton, Partners Allison, Alison and Ruth as well as Honorary Members Kevin and Uwe.

Another excellent 3 course meal provided by Chef Kouma, we are well looked after.

Lucky Door winners were David O’Dwyer and Neil Walton – congratulations.

For me, a highlight of the meeting was the welcome back to Broadbeach Rotary to Ray Milton as a member. After a few years away from Rotary, I know that Ray will contribute his expertise to the future operation of our club. Welcome back Ray! It is great to conclude the Rotary Year with an increase in membership.

As they will not be at the Changeover, I personally wish to thank Neil Jones for his continuing work in the Club, with his wise counsel and particularly with the Rotarlight and Bill Rex for his hospitality and Bar work as well as taking photographs when Neil has not been able to. We all wish Neil good health and an enjoyable time in Western Australia as well as enjoying a cruise and good travelling to Bill as he journeys to China then to Taiwan for a Rotary Friendship Exchange.

I also noted that our Containers for Change under the expertise of Colin Welch has returned to the Club just on $600 for the first six months of this year – well done to Colin and members.

Harold has also negotiated the purchase of a replacement Dishwasher (from Bunnings) and it started its work at this meeting. Thank you to Kevin for the installation.

Incoming President Ron highlighted the coming Rotary year and the expectations of Rotary International and District. He also distributed 2 survey forms to gauge the interests of members and the way forward for the club.

To all members and partners who contribute to Broadbeach Rotary, I personally thank you for your generous giving of your time for the betterment of our community and society and to Rotary – Doing Good in the World.

Remember, if you haven’t already, please Register for 2 June Changeover which promises to be a good night, where we farewell the Theme – Unite for Good and welcome the Presidential Theme of - Create Lasting Impact, with the Changeover having a Country Theme.

Yours in Rotary

Neil

Mentoring the next generation of leaders
May is Rotary’s Youth Service Month, when we celebrate young leaders’ energy, idealism, and service. Rotary offers numerous ways to nurture the next generation of leaders. Get young people involved in your next club project or activity. Provide mentorship and support to youth in your community. Meet Pedro Casadei, an assistant Rotary public image coordinator from Brazil. He developed his leadership skills in Interact and Rotaract before joining Rotary. Currently, he serves as a member of The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisers.

Rotary’s 2026 People of Action are poised to change the world
Six club members aged 30 or younger were selected in March as People of Action: Champions of Tomorrow. The recipients, based in Colombia, India, Italy, the Philippines, Uganda, and the U.S., have led transformative initiatives by and for young people. In honor of Youth Service Month, read about these young innovators.
