Well done President Andrew and all involved

FROM OUR MEETING 14 MAY 2024

Scribe: Neil Baldwin
15 in attendance including 11 Members, Honorary Member Uwe, Guests Pam and Helen and Guest Speaker John Goldstein.
Unfortunately, President Andrew was unwell and unable to attend the meeting.
Chef Kouma provided another great meal, this time a Greek Feast, which was again enjoyed by all present.
Raffle was taken out by Lucky Malcolm Daviess and Heads and Tails by Harold Busch.
Sergeant Noel managed to extract some funds from all of us with an entertaining Sergeant’s session.
Jim Hawkins introduced Guest Speaker John Goldstein.
John is the original founder of the Gold Coast Marathon, with the inaugural event held on 3 September 1979. It was originally run around Chevron Island and the Isle of Capri, before moving to the current layout.
The origin of the Gold Coast Marathon was born from Rotary with The Surfers Paradise Central Rotary Club organising the early events and John is extremely proud of the involvement of Rotary in setting this event on its journey.
The Gold Coast Marathon is now rated with the Top 12 in the World. – quite an achievement.
John stated that he has never run in a Marathon, but referred to his life as being a Marathon.
John’s other hat includes the Goldstein’s Bakery which was founded in Brisbane in 1994 and on the Gold Coast in 1957. Goldstein’s were recognised Australia wide for their products, with many tourists visiting the Gold Cost just to buy goods at their Bakery.
Jim thanked John for his presentation and provided a Broadbeach Glass as a thank you.

Neil Baldwin noted that our Changeover Dinner will be held on Tuesday 25 June 2024 at The Hub – the cost is to be advised.

Further, following positive feedback from members, Meetings commencing in July will be held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the Month, with appropriate social events to be also organised within appropriate months.

The Meeting closed just before 8pm and we thank the members for the setup of The Hub as well as the cleanup.

WEEKLY LAUGHS
Conflicting Proverbs

Actions speak louder than words.
The pen is mightier than the sword.

Look before you leap.
He who hesitates is lost.

Many hands make light work.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.

A silent man is a wise one.
A man without words is a man without thoughts.

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Clothes make the man.
Don't judge a book by its cover.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Better safe than sorry.

A 10 dollar bill, a 5 dollar bill, and a 100 dollar bill all die and go to heaven.
God sees the 1 dollar bill and says he's been good, so he let him in.
He also let the 5 dollar bill in for being good.
When the 100 dollar bill went up to him, God said, "Hmm, well I never see YOU in church."

A man goes into a pet store and asks the clerk, "Do you have any dogs that go cheap?"
The salesman says, "No, we have birds that go cheep. Our dogs bark!"

Q: What does the tooth fairy give for half a tooth?

Q: What did the dolphin say when he bumped into the whale?
A: I didn't do it on porpoise.

Q: What happens to a refrigerator when you pull its plug?
A: It loses its cool.

Q: Why did the banana go to the doctor?
A: Because it wasn't peeling well!

Q: Why did the robber take a bath?
A: Because he wanted to make a clean getaway!
