Fellow Rotarians & Friends

A fantastic night at the hub with Chris cooking up one of his famous roast and vegetables. Our guest of the week was Josie Hamilton, along with her Dad Andrew and Grandpa Gary. Josie shared with us all her lovely experiences from RYPEN. It was nice to see that all our hard work with fundraising can help send young students like Josie to rotary camps. We have locked in a BBQ at Bunnings on the 19th August so please register if you can help out with the BBQ. Thanks again to all that help clean up the hub.

Don’t forget next week we will be meeting at the Gold Coast Tavern for a trial dinner. We will meet at 6pm for a 6.30 start. Please meet upstairs and order meals and drinks from the bar.  Cost is $5.00 per person as part of the room hire. Meals are your own choice from the menu with a 25% discount.

Looking forward to seeing you then.

Cheers

Andrew

FROM OUR MEETING 19 JULY 2022

Scribe: Rock O'Keefe
The meeting was opened by Chairman Uwe, who passed the meeting over to President Andrew. Andrew welcomed the guest speaker: Josie Hamilton, her father Andrew and grandfather Gary Hamilton. Honorary Kevin O'Brien was present. Andrew also thanked those who worked on the Hub to prepare the meeting venue, and the caterers.

Pauline informed the Club about the forthcoming "Botanical Bazaar" at Country Paradise, Nerang, on 6-7th August and encouraged members to attend.
Andrew informed the Club of a forthcoming Golden Casket "Raffle" that may benefit the club. More about this at a later date.
Bruce Kuhn spoke on Membership and a Focus club to improve the membership numbers.

Uwe, as Sergeant, then extracted spare cash from just about everyone present. Lucky Door was won by Andrew Hamilton. Heads & Tails won by Pauline.

Guest Speaker, 15 year old Josie Hamilton, presented a slide show of the activities of the RYPEN camp she attended, and then gave a very competent speech of her time there.
She had heard about the camp at an Interact meeting, and a friend who had attended previously, encouraged her attendance. She learnt so much about mental health, leadership and the transition from a teenager to an adult in the correct manner. Activities  and seminars dealt with leadership, teamwork, and the best ways to collaborate  with people who may be different from them. Josie thanked Noel Hodges and the Rotary Club of Broadbeach for funding the camp. She finished with: "It was a truly rewarding experience and I cannot thank you enough for allowing me the opportunity."

The next meeting of the Club will be next Tuesday at the Gold Coast Tavern, as a trial.

Andrew closed the meeting at 7.40pm

The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."
