A milestone for Broadbeach Rotary celebrating 50 years of service to the Gold Coast and its community. Our Kasaoka visitors arrived on Thursday morning with their tour guide Bruce Kuhn spending the day with them. Thanks to Nasser and Nayer, we spent Thursday evening enjoying a home cooked meal. Harold and Helen also enjoyed the evening with us and getting to know our sister club visitors. Friday our visitors spent the day on the tourist route of Mt Tambourine. Friday night was a BBQ and drinks at my and Narelle’s house to welcome our guests to the Gold Coast and show them a little taste of Australian culture.
Saturday morning was spent with Don from Tauranga club at the Arundel men’s shed to see all the work for the Pentecost project.
Saturday nights celebration was held at Emerald Lakes Golf Club with over 70 guests enjoying a 3-course meal and a night of fellowship. Thank you, Bruce, for being our MC on the night, a wonderful job you did. Thanks to Tony, Neil and Bob for producing the 3rd book that shows how remarkable this club is. Also, a big thank you to Neil Jones for your 50 years PowerPoint presentation, it was amazing to reflect and look back to how far the club has come.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night 13th December at 6pm for our Christmas party. We are having a banquet at Benowa Gardens Highland Court Chinese Restaurant. Cost is $35 per person and BYO wine if you wish. Please book via the website.

SISTER CLUB VISITOR ACTIVITIES AND DINNER SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2022

Sister Club Visitor Activities
Our Kasaoka visitors were received at the Gold Coast Airport nice and early on Thursday morning the 24th from an overnight flight direct from Japan. After a delay in customs, not of their own doing, they were whisked off to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. This visit was arranged through the friendship of the RC of Currumbin Coolangatta Tweed who sponsor a number of programs to assist the treatment of native animals, particularly the Koala chlamydia program. Here, our friends were shown koala's being treated, birds treated on the operating table, turtles whose shells had been literally bogged and wired, and a seasnake which had been found that morning. They were then hosted with coffee at Vikings Surf Club Currumbin followed by lunch at Northcliffe Surf Club while waiting for their rooms. That night they were hosted by the Kaviani's with the McTaggarts and Busch's also in attendance.
On Friday, the Kasaoka group organised a tour of Mount Tamborine for the day. President Andrew and his family hosted them that night for dinner and fellowship.
On SAturday, through the friendship of RC's of Surfers Sunrise and Gold Coast, we met with Don Pilbrow of Tauranga Club and visited the Arundel Rotary shed and provided with a presentation of the Pentecost Hospital project and also their wheelchair project. Lunch at the Bundall tavern followed before being dropped off at their accomodation. Don Pilbrow was delivered to the residence of PDG Graham Jones where they met with Dr Chaimeka Chinaka, a Nigerian Doctor on a Rotary Scholarship to research Parkinsons and Brain disease, (Tauranga Club is the International Sponsor of the Global Grant Scholarship).
All members joined us for the 50th Anniversary dinner. Our Japanese friends returned home early for an early Sunday flight back to Japan, certainly a 'flying' visit. Don Pilbrow was then hosted on Sunday by Jim Hawkins before returning to NZ on Monday.
Everyone involved enjoyed the Rotary fellowship and refresh of the sister club arrangement with opportunities for all Clubs discussed.
The Celebration Dinner
After a huge amount of planning and arrangements by President Andrew and Narelle, and Sarah and Emma, the 50th Anniversary Dinner was held at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club which was a fantastic venue.
Fellowship was the theme with no hurry for formalities to commence, but when it did, MC Bruce kicked off with some 50yr memorable moments which were interspersed throughout the night. There were a number of special guests, and unfortunately a few apologies due illness. Our special special guests were our visitors from Kasaoka and Tauranga.
Formal proceedings started with the loyal toast by David O'Dwyer and a formal welcome by President Andrew. Dinner was served, delectable entree's and lovely main, while the 50 year compilation, a huge amount of work by Neil Jones, was played during dinner. Reference was also made to the 50 year books for which we are extremely grateful to Tony Lewis and neil Jones for their work.
The night progressed after dinner with a Toast to the Club by PDG Darrell Brown (a Charter Member) who highlighted the historical endeavours leading up to the current day. President Andrew responded with an outline of current activities.
The cutting of the cake (and wasn't it a cake!) was completed by President Andrew, President Akira Matsuo (Kasaoka) and Don Pilbrow (Tauranga), before being sliced up for dessert.
Vice President Pauline then provided a toast to Rotary International which was responded by current National Director for Foundation, PDG Tony Heading, who outlined the international focus of Rotary.
The Toast to the Sister Club arrangements was provided by Jim Hawkins and responses by President Matsuo and Don.
A short presentation by Graham Jones regarding the Malaria Vaccine project was provided, followed by a short outline by Dr Chiemeka Chinaka of his Rotary Scholarship studies researching the Human Brain and Parkinsons disease.
The night was rounded off with a snappy auction and raffles before President Andrew called the night to a close.
