Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

An attendance of 14 at our social meeting with quite a few members away. Guests were John Wallace, Peter Sutton and partner Allison Borland. The lucky door winner was Harold Busch.

Our member Bill Rex had just returned on Sunday from a nine-day Rotary Friendship Exchange to Taipei and gave the meeting a Power Point Presentation. Bill said it was a holiday on Steroids.

There were only five team members, and they were given fantastic hospitality from District 3523 Rotary members. They were hosted by Rotarians and had a lot of eating out and sightseeing as well as attending a combined Rotary meeting on their final night where there were between 150 and 180 in attendance.

International Service Director, Neil Johns has offered to put together a presentation on our sister clubs, Rotary Club of Kasaoka in Okayama, Japan and Rotary Club of Tauranga, New Zealand. Neil will follow up on a potential visit to Kasaoka Club.

The Board has set membership fees for 2026-27 at $280, a reduction of $40 on last year. This was achieved by paying half of the District Insurance Contribution from the community account.

Harold Busch thanked everyone that helped with the success of the recent Bunnings Sausage Sizzle with a record gross of $2,400.

The upcoming meeting dates were discussed and in two weeks would be a 5th Tuesday. It was the meetings consensus that there is not time to organise a separate venue and we would proceed with a three-week break till the next formal meeting on the 7th July. A Board Meeting will be held at The Hub following the 7th July meeting.

Members were reminded that on the social meeting of the 21st July that the theme would be “Christmas in July” with a menu to match and guests to come along in festive dress.

Guest Speaker at our meeting on the 4th August will be Tony Lewis who will perform magic and explain how the tricks are performed.

2026-27 Club Membership Fees
The Board has set the annual club membership fee for the 2026-27 Rotary year at $280, a reduction of $40 from the previous year.
 
Individual invoices will be sent to members shortly and the full year fee will be payable on 1 July 2026 but please do not pay prior to then.
 
Payment can be made by direct deposit to Rotary Club of Broadbeach Inc Administration Account (BSB: 034-637,  Account Number:  201534) from 1 July. 
 
Arrangements are being made to have our EFTPOS machine available at the meeting on 7 July for payment of membership fees only for those who wish to pay by this medium.
 
With Rotary International, District 9640, Rotary Down Under  and Club Runner fees now due, Treasurer Jim would appreciate your prompt attention to payment of your membership fees. 
 
Surfers Paradise Rotary Club Race Day 2026
Supporting Malaria Vaccine Project
This annual event will again this year be supporting the Malaria Vaccine Project Of which Broadbeach is a sponsor club and your editor the treasurer.
 
Accordingly we are endeavouring to get together a table of ten to support the event which will be held on Saturday 5 September, 2026 in the Glass House (formerly called the Dome) at the Gold Coast Turf Club. The expected cost will be $95 per person including a wonderful buffet lunch.
 
This is a wonderful opportunity to have a fun day out with fellow club members and friends whilst helping to raise funds for this very worthwhile humanitarian project.

Rotary International Convention draws 38K
 
 
The 2026 Rotary International Convention in Taipei, Taiwan, ended on a high note as British singer-songwriter Leona Lewis brought thousands of attendees to their feet with a stirring performance of her hit songs. The host city's warm hospitality was on full display as hundreds of Rotary volunteers formed a human corridor outside the venue, greeting departing attendees with loud cheers and high fives. One of Rotary's largest conventions in recent years, the four-day event attracted more than 38,000 people from 140 countries and regions. Read more about the convention
