Great evening with DG Harry Bolton and Shauna at the Quality Inn.
Some of us were privileged to hear Harry speak twice as we had also attended the combined Clubs meeting at Surfers Sunrise last Wednesday 17th July.
Harry and Shauna have lived in Tenterfield for 32 years. They have been married 40 years and have three adult children,
Harry has been in Rotary since 2002 and has been President of Tenterfield twice [2006/7 and 2016/17]. He has taken long service leave from his managerial position in the Shire of Tenterfield to concentrate on his Rotary District Governor duties.
Shauna works as a Nurse in Tenterfield Hospital and has nominated the Malaria Vaccine Project Griffith University as her project for support in their year.
We were delighted to present Shauna with a cheque of $500 for this very worthwhile project.
President of RI Mark Maloney’s theme this year is ‘Rotary Connects the World’. Harry expanded on this theme to emphasise the importance of connecting with one another through regular meetings. In this age of the internet the art of face to face communication and dialogue is fading. [Yet fellowship is being recognised more and more as important to the health of society.]
Harry is optimistic about the future of Rotary and that essential changes such as the building and improvement of websites and the promotion of Rotary through out the community is now happening. [We should consider using a banner with similar mottos and motifs that Harry and Shauna placed in our meeting tonight for our own community activities such as the sausage sizzle and car boot sale.]
I agree with Harry that Rotary, and particularly District 9640 with Clubs that meet weekly and fortnightly as well as ‘e-clubs’ a University club and a ‘Passport meeting club’, is in a healthy and viable condition. The long established clubs such as Broadbeach have a wealth of experienced and knowledgable members and are in a situation of being able to assist younger Rotary and Rotaract clubs.
Harry requested that we should look to the forming of Rotaract clubs [Where the age limit has been changed to 35.] Also there will be a Rotaract conference on the Gold Coast in February 2020.
Harry and Shauna have been cordially invited to attend our Police Officer of the Year which is to be held at the Quality Inn Tuesday the 29th of October.
The District Conference will be held in Tenterfield 27th to 29th March next year.
I will be overseas at a conference until mid August and VP and AG Neil Baldwin will preside.

Hello fellow Rotarians

As I am gradually finding my BBRC secretarial feet, its timely to remind members where documents can be found if required.  Occasionally a member may need to have a copy of the club letterhead, certificate of currency etc.  These are available on Club Runner under Admin, View Club Documents and can be downloaded from there.  There are also Board minutes, Members lists and a myriad of other documents to amuse yourself with reading, especially on those cold winters nights if you can’t sleep and perhaps have run out of warm milk or sleeping tablets……...

Of course I’m always happy to assist with emailing documents to members if required or you are having issues locating them on the Club Runner.

A Cultural Opportunity Open to All Members
 
On behalf of our Rotary Club as part of our Sister Club agreement with Kasaoka Rotary Club, Noel and Kay are home hosting Natsuno Kobayashi from the 15-31 August. She is a 20 year old female who will be studying 
English at Bond Uni on weekdays.
It is important Natsuno meets other members and their families, to enhance her cultural experience. 
We need some members to help with her entertainment and if you have any activities on the weekends or even a week night where she could be included in any picnics, drives, visits, movies, dinner  etc. please advise Noel via email or phone as soon as convenient.
For example, some of us could have a Sunday breakfast at the Bundall Markets which is an experience in itself if you haven’t been there.
Other suggestions please.
Many thanks for helping to make her stay here as rewarding as possible.

Botanical Bazaar Sunday 4 August
This Garden & Sustainability Festival, supported by Gold Coast Rotary Club will be held at Country Paradise Parklands, Nerang from 9.00am to 4.00pm Sunday 4 August.
See sustainable living concepts including permaculture, aquaponics and organic gardening. Participate in workshops, view botanical art, shop for garden tools and growing mediums. Thousands of plants for sale. A day for the whole family with kids nature activities, delicious food and entertainment.

FROM OUR LAST MEETING  23 JULY 2019

A special Rotary meeting—  The District Governor`s  visit.
 
We welcomed  D.G.   Harry   together with his wife   Shauna.    ‘
Sgt. Uwe  called the meeting to order and  quoted Rotary`s  4 WAY  TEST  with much verve.
Cec proposed the toast to the Rotary Club  of Parkes, NSW— recognising the 50th Anniversary of the American Moon Landing. The Parks Telescope played an important roll with communications during the landing, half a century ago.
Hon. Members attending were Uwe and Ian.
Mention was made of the new  “Passport Rotary Club and its Charter meeting scheduled for 15th August at Miami.
Neil  and Carol Baldwin are joining a Rotary Friendship exchange to Scotland.
President Graham reported that Director PP Harold  made a  “ROMAC”  information presentation to local Medical Students, Bond University is interested in joining in  the Vanuatu Project and in this regard the three participating Gold Coast clubs hve received approval of their  district grant applications and finally that he will be away for a month—attending a conference—Vice President Neil B will officiate.
 
Our Club  made a presentation of  $500.00 to the D.G`s  wife  Shauna to assist with her partner project supporting the Malaria Vaccine Project. Shauna thanked the Club, kindly.
 
Sgt. Uwe  conducted a spirited fines session  and asked local  law enforcers, Les and Bruce to  act as Bunyips; fines included---
Malcolm  managed a record 4 winners in the Club Member`s  racing  syndicate— while PP Ray has decided that  he is too busy to  find the time to retire.
Heads and Tails winner was John Monks  and the raffle  winner was Neil Jones —— both scored a Bottle of “RED”, 
 
President Grahame introduced  D.G.  Harry, for  his address.
Harry and  Shauna are from  Tenterfield—they have been married for 40 years— He has been a Rotarian  for   32  years.
 
The DG reminded us that this month is Rotary  “Leadership” month.  He stressed the benefits of the programme.
The anniversary  date of  Rotary`s 100  years  in Australia  is approaching .
The theme of his address  centred `round—“Rotary has a unique ability  to  adapt to change—Communications however  being vital.
Leadership— Rotary education  for  potential member`s —vary  fund raising activities.   Rotary must be relevant in its community recognising its needs. Advise “what Rotary has achieved”
We need to put ourselves “out’, in the public domain—and to communicate better.
Web sites are the modern  communication tool.   The message must reflect what we do.
Rotaract has gone quiet in recent times—the challenge is to re-build it.   Rotaractors  can join Rotary  and enjoy lower membership fees.
The District Conference is to be held from March 27th to March 29th at  enterfield.
