Presidents Message
Fellow Rotarians and friends,

The garden beds at Lady Small nursing home have now been planted and a big thankyou to our green thumb Barbara. We have had several residents come out to enjoy the new garden area and one lady has been picking flowers for the dining room. All we need now is a fine Saturday morning for the artist to finish painting and of course a couple of members to assist this Saturday morning from 10am.
Remember the District conference is at Ballina on Friday17th and Saturday18th May.

Please Join me next week at the hub, Tuesday May 14th with our guest speaker John Goldstein.

Yours in Rotary,

Andrew

Rotary program vaccinates children in South Pacific

The island countries of the South Pacific are tropically warm, economically diverse, and really, really far apart. Individual countries’ islands are scattered across vast distances in this region, which spans millions of miles. Despite geographic (and other) obstacles, Rotary members in Australia, New Zealand, and several Pacific Island countries organized a major vaccination program in the area. Give Every Child a Future provides three new vaccines to 100,000 children in nine Pacific Island groups. Read more about the program, created to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in the region.

Rotary partners with the United Nations Environment Program
Have you heard about Community Action for Fresh Water? In this new initiative, rooted in a strategic partnership with the United Nations Environment Program, Rotary and Rotaract members work with their communities and partners to protect, restore, and sustain freshwater ecosystems.

FROM OUR MEETING 23 APRIL 2024

Scribe: Neil Jones
With Chef Koumar ill and low numbers it was decided to switch our meeting to a social evening meal at the Kampung Malay restaurant on Slatyer Street.

Whilst small in number those that attended shared some great fellowship and enjoyed a meal of their own choice.

A relaxing and most enjoyable evening.

The week in pictures
Work continues on the Dementia Garden at Lady Small Haven and the photos below show progress with the garden beds painting and planting.

WEEKLY LAUGHS

Police have reopened the case of the photographer who went missing, due to recent developments.

Profound Thoughts:

If you take an Oriental person and spin him around several times, does he become disoriented?

If people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes?

Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?

If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why are a wise man and a wise guy opposites?

Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?

Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one?

"I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, dog trainers debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?

You never really learn to swear until you learn to drive.

No one ever says, "It's only a game" when their team is winning.

Ever wonder about those people who spend $5.00 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backwards: NAÏVE
