Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,
Another low attendance at our meeting but we again enjoyed a nice meal prepared by Chef Kouma. Good to welcome Honorary member Kevin O’Brien and former member and Past President Alain Charles to the meeting.
Peter Tomlinson was smiling again after taking home the lucky door prize.

Our Annual General Meeting was conducted with the Financial Report and Account Reconciliations as at 30 June 2025 being adopted. Thank you to Treasurer Noel for his work on the finances of the Club.

More importantly we conducted an election of our Executive for Rotary Year 2026/2027 and thank you to the members who wer nominated and unanimously elected to positions as follows:
President Elect     Ron Borland
Vice President.     Pauline Armstrong
Secretary.             Neil Baldwin
Treasurer.             Jim Hawkins

The Directors for 2026/2027 are yet to be determined. The minutes of the AGM are available on ClubRunner under the organisation area.

We had discussions about the Christmas Dinner to be held at Espirit de Vie 100 Lakeview Boulevard Mermaid Waters on Tuesday 16 December2025, commencing at 6pm at a cost of $50 per head. There  will be alternate drops of:
Main
Traditional Christmas Roast Plate - turkey and ham plus vegetables or
Grilled Salmon Steak - asparagus, mash and lemon myrtle butter sauce.
Desert
Vanilla Bean Pannacotta
Traditional Christmas Plum Pudding

Should be an enjoyable evening and we will start on the rooftop with pre-dinner drinks and nibbles.

Next Meeting 2 December we will welcome Councillor Darren Taylor as Guest Speaker and I encourage all members to attend to receive an update on Gold Coast Council happenings.

Noel Hodges is investigating if we can have our first meeting of 2026 at Robina Bowls Club on Tuesday 6 January for a bowls evening followed by dinner. More information to follow.

We all wish Neil Jones every success with his upcoming treatment as he faces a prolonged period of treatment. Even through his medical issues Neil is still producing the Rotarlight, and for that we also give thanks.

Yours in Rotary,

Neil

Rotary Information Weekly

The Rotary Foundation is proud to announce that it has recently received a four-star rating — the highest level possible — for the 17th consecutive year from Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator in the United States.

This success is due to the unwavering support and dedication of Clubs & Rotarians, being a crucial part of what makes our Foundation a powerful force for meaningful change and lasting impact through service.

Charity Navigator determines its ratings by examining how nonprofits use their funds, how sustainable their programs are, and how well they adhere to industry standards of transparency and accountability. You can learn more about how Rotary does that in our most recent annual report.

Our support of The Rotary Foundation inspires others and directly makes a difference with initiatives around the world as well as projects based in our local community.

The Foundation is deeply grateful for its donors who are dedicated to Doing Good in the World.

WEEKLY LAUGHS
Did I tell anyone I have a bad memory. If I did I think it is getting better. I can't remember the last time I forgot something.

Mr. Schwarzenegger, I've been informed that you have retired from acting and that you are doing pest control now. Is it true that you kill bugs?
Yes. I now am an ex-Terminator.

Children's Logic: "Give me a sentence about a public servant," said a teacher.
The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant."
The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked.
"Sure," said the young boy confidently. 'It means carrying a child."

Some wordplay:

I have been in many places in my life but I've never been in Cahoots.  Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I've also never been in Cognito.  I hear no one recognises you there.

I have, however, been in Sane.  They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there.  I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends and family.  I live close so it's a short drive.

I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.

I have also been in Doubt.  That is a sad place to go and I try not to visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older.

One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense!  It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart!  At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!

And, sometimes I think I am in Vincible but life shows me I am not.
People keep telling me I'm in Denial but I'm positive I've never been there before!

I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there.

So far, I haven't been in Continent, but my travel agent says it is on the list...

An English professor announced to the class; "There are two words I don't allow in my class. One is gross and the other is cool."
From the back of the room a voice called out, "Yeah? So, what are the words?"
