Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

On Tuesday evening we had a well-attended Annual General Meeting with 19 members in attendance.

I would like to thank all the members for their well wishes to Allison for a speedy recovery. Progress is slow but at least we think the Doctors now know what to treat.

Neil Jones addressed the members to update them on the progress of the negotiations with council officers for gaining the information and assurances required to submit the grant for major funds to improve The Hub premises.

I would like to thank Neil, Harold Busch and David O’Dwyer for all their time and effort they are putting into this proposed application.

Congratulations to Colin Welch for the excellent fund-raising Trivia night raising $755 and special thanks to Peter Tomlinson and family for hosting a club meeting at The Wax Museum. Both of these events took place during my absence overseas and given all the positive reports I have received I am sorry to have missed them.

Thanks to Secretary Neil Baldwin and Treasurer Jim Hawkins for the preparation of the AGM papers. They must have carried out a good job as there were no questions from the floor. When it came to electing office bearers for 2027-2028 both were re-elected to their positions, so the club is in good hands.

Congratulation to John Wallace on being nominated and elected President Elect to come in as the clubs President for Rotary year 2027-2028.  Thanks also to Neil Jones for accepting the role of Vice President.

The Board endorsed the majority of members who agreed that the wines should be 150ml in size the same as the hotel measure.

Since the meeting we have been offered and accepted another Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 27th December. This will allow our club with the members backing to become more financial in the Community Account and allow our club to assist more in our community.

The dates to note in your Diary are Friday 20th November, Sunday 27th December, Saturday 2nd January and Friday 29th January.

Next Thursday evening (4:30 – 8pm) Colin Welch and I have volunteered to assist with the BBQ for their Halloween Party at Bunnings Q Super Centre Mermaid Waters store, and the club will be donated a $150 Bunnings voucher.

The lucky door draw was won by Neil Jones.

It was the decision of members that we do not hold a meeting on Tuesday night 3rd November as its Melbourne Cup Day. Our next meeting will be on 17th November which is the District Governor Deb Frugtniet's visit.

Yours in Rotary

President Ron

Main image: Polio researcher Dorothy Horstmann peering into a microscope
The woman with the cure
For years, polio researcher Dorothy Horstmann stood in the shadows of men like Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin. But without her groundbreaking discovery about the polio virus, there might never have been a vaccine. Find out how this pioneering scientist helped make a polio-free world possible.

Grandparents for Vaccines
Retired pediatrician Dr. Arthur Lavin has seen the lifesaving impact of vaccines firsthand. That's why declines in immunization rates worry him. Last year, he co-founded an advocacy group that shares the stories of people who remember a world before vaccines against polio and other diseases. Learn about the mission and how you can get involved.

Christmas Presents For Kids in Care
The board has agreed to support a local charity- Christmas Presents for Kids in Care, you may have noticed their annual Santa jet ski run on the evening news.
This is a charity close to my heart (Colin) their target recipients are children that are in homes with multiple foster kids, aged 6 years to 16, in particular the teenage girls who traditionally are difficult to buy for. Generally individual gifts have a dollar value of $15-$25.
As a guide l have listed some of the most needed or popular gift - Hairdryers, Straighteners, Waffle maker Cooking equipment, Skateboard, Helmet, Make-up, Make-up brushes, Caps, Dreamcatcher Jewellery making stuff, Body wash stuff and Make up Mirrors

We would welcome member’s contributions to this cause, you also have the option of donating cash which can go to the charity or if preferred l can buy a gift for you when l purchase mine.
We would need the presents by December 7th and if wrapped please wrap in clear cellophane, Col can collect gifts if required.

Please help by contacting col 0417 861 506
