Another good meeting with 17 in attendance, even if the program for the night didn’t work out as planned due to some apologies.
We welcomed Rotarian and Past Member Bruce Kuhn and wife Louise plus Carol Baldwin and Peter Sutton. It was good to catch up with Bruce and Louise again.
Kouma again provided a great meal with a Greek twist, which was enjoyed by everyone present. We are so spoilt in the Menu that we are provided! Thank you Kouma.
Neil Jones and Uwe Seifert were the Lucky Door winners – congratulations.
Ron Borland gave us an overview of the Changeover Dinner to be conducted on Tuesday 2 June – with a Country and Western Theme. We need to get our jeans, boots, hats and appropriate shirts ready for the occasion.
Jim and Pam Hawkins and Carol and I attended the Tri District Conference – Reaching Across Boundaries on 2 and 3 May 2026 at the RACV Royal Pines Resort and Jim, Carol and myself provided an overview of the major speakers, club projects and highlights from the weekend. The conference saw around 500 Rotarians and Rotaract members from as far afield as Grafton in the South to Mackay, Cairns, Darwin, PNG and Timor Leste in attendance. This could have been a forerunner to what we can expect in Queensland from 1 July 2028 with the Redistricting when all of Queensland and the Islands will be contained within one District.
There were some interesting club projects highlighted including the Royal Flying Doctor Service Transfer Hangar at Emerald and it is worth noting the amount of fundraising that can occur in small rural areas.
A further project was the Windeward Bound Project that caters for young people in sailing a yacht. The CEO of RAWCS was interesting in that he had been through 3 Refugee Centres and then survived an assassination attempt while working in Afghanistan, a very lucky man.
