Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to 2021. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, a happy new year and most importantly, are hale and hearty in health. This year is the Chinese Year of the Ox which may be of interest to you or not at all!

What a wonderful Christmas party we were treated to on the 15^th. Many thanks to Robyn and Peter for a spectacular evening, it was a great treat to be able to see so many members, partners and friends along.

We are past the halfway mark in the Rotary year. It's been a challenge in terms of how to manage during COVID with limited fund raising available, however the club is in a great position to support our business-as-usual projects and Pentecost commitment through to July. Many, many thanks to those members who volunteered for a last-minute sizzle at Bunnings on Boxing Day. The takings were significantly down when compared to past years. I blame the weather, such a great day everyone went to the beach. To compensate for the poor takings, Grace has given us an extra sizzle. Ray will be looking for volunteers for those on Saturday 30 January and Saturday 20 February.

Rotary in Australia turns 100 this year. No telegram from the Queen but sure to be celebrated in style. I’ll provide advice regarding the district plans to commemorate, including the baton relay, as soon as I am aware, so we can be involved as a club for such a special occasion.

We are starting the year off rolling on the rinks of Mermaid Beach Bowls Club. I’m looking forward to seeing you there next Tuesday night.

The Final prize draw took place at the Christmas Party and the winning number 16 was held by Brian Pearson who was not in attendance but in due course he will receive the $600 first prize.

Also not present on the night, AG Sheila Ponting won a $50 voucher for Super Cheap Autos.

Tauranga Celebrates 75 Years of Service

Our sister club, the Rotary Club of Tauranga celebrated its 75th anniversary on Sunday 13 December 2020. A small group of Broadbeach Rotarians joined in the celebrations via Zoom - President Les from work and 5 others from the Hub. Thank you to Jim Hawkins for setting up the technology.

FROM OUR LAST MEETING TUESDAY 15 DECEMBER 2020

What a fantastic evening was had by 56 members and friends at the 2020 Christmas Party held at Surfers Paradise Golf Club. Firstly fellowship and drinks with background music provided by Graham Sivyer followed by a traditional Christmas dinner and a few formalities. All in all very relaxing and very enjoyable. Well done and a big thank you to Robyn & Peter for all their efforts in organising the function.

President Les welcomed everyone and handed over to Andrew for the Silver Circle Draw. Andrew called upon a golf club staffer to draw the winning numbers which were:

$600 Brian Pearson; $300 Neil Jones; $100 Alain Charles, Titans Jersey Les Bulluss (after original winner Sarah McTaggart donated it back); $100 Bunnings gift card Robyn Brown; and, $50 Super Cheap Autos voucher AG Sheila Ponting.

President Les thanked Andrew for organising the Silver Circle, proceeds of which were used to subsidise the Christmas Party keeping the cost down to $25 per person including drinks.

Les thanked Robyn for organising the function and in appreciation also made a small presentation to her on behalf of all those present.

Following the drawing of some lucky seat prizes Ray Milton auctioned some surplus Christmas Puddings and managed to extract some worthwhile funds from members.

President Les thanked all for attending and wished everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy New Year.
