When 2020 A Space Oddity, Back to the Future and other futuristic movies were made, who would have thought that the wizzbang gadgets and technology shown, many would be actually invented and considered mainstream. Whilst there isn’t time travel or flying Deloreans, never say never! The Robotics presentation by Daniel Riccardo and the Merrimac High School team showed that the future technologies are limitless.

It was an honour to support this on going project, on behalf of the club I was delighted to present $1500 to assist its ongoing viability. Danial is an extremely passionate educator, his enthusiasm rubs off on his students and it shows by their results. The Merrimac Robotics is consistently in the top five Australian programs.

The board has approved the membership application of Luella Smith, proposed by Russ. I look forward to inducting Luella soon. The board also approved Yong as Membership Director with Nigel taking a leave of absence due to work commitments. Thank you to Yong for agreeing to undertake the role.

Please register for the Christmas party on 15 December at the Surfers Paradise Golf Club. Next week at the Hub, we will be treated to the gastronomic constructional delights of Grahame and Noel, with the evening profits going to the Rotary Foundation causes. I look forward to seeing you there.

Notes from the Board Meeting held on Tuesday 24 November 2020

- Further discussion took place on a Garage Sale Fundraising Project - with more detail to be finalised.

- Nigel Hyland OAM has sought and been granted Leave of Absence until 30 June 2021, due to work commitments and flowing from this Yong Chua has been appointed to the position of Director Membership and Public Relations for the remainder of the current Rotary Year.

- An amount of $325 has been paid to Neighbourhood Watch from the Bunnings Sizzle of 21 November - by agreement as we helped them out.

- A Policy is to be developed on the issuing and use of Debit Cards on the Sausage Sizzle Account.

- The next Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 January 2021, as there is no Board Meeting scheduled for December.

The Minutes will be available on Club Runner following their completion.

Sergeant David O’ Dwyer opened the meeting at 6.30 pm

President Les welcomed all and wished everyone an enjoyable evening. He welcomed our guests from Merrimac High School (Daniel Ricardo, Siaan Petersen, Maya Wood, Jaden Gibbors, and Jess Eden) the Robotic team. Also, Pauline’s grandson Joey Armstrong.

Nasser talked about the Xmas cakes/puddings that have arrived and asked Rotarians who haven’t paid to please pay for their orders soon.

Harold talked about scooter and their Xmas puddings that minders should receive and distribute individually. Nasser to bring them to next week meeting at the hub.

Sergeant did the fine session and fined all who have had a birthday this year. Brian P cross fined the sergeant for forgetting to let him do his toast at the beginning of the meeting.

Raffle Winner was Nayer and the Heads and Tails winner was Andrew

Andrew did the jackpot and winners were number 2 and 3.

Last year I replaced several windows in my house and they were the expensive double-pane energy efficient kind. But this week I got a call from the contractor complaining that his work has been completed for a whole year and I had yet to pay for them.
Boy, oh boy, did we go round. I have a very good memory so I proceeded to tell him, just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year. . . "that in one year the windows would pay for themselves".
There was silence on the other end of the line so I just hung up and I haven't heard back. Guess I must have won that silly argument.
