After a bit of confusion at the start of the night as to where our meeting was actually situated – Upstairs or Downstairs at the Hotel – as some members were directed to both Meeting Rooms, it was decided that we would meet Upstairs – even though we had to access the Bar from a further Different Meeting Room! An interesting start to the evening.
Sergeant Neil Jones opened the Meeting and invited President Peter Dimond to welcome Members and Guests. A special welcome was extended to our Guest Speaker Helen Cornelius from Gold Coast City Council and Grant Owen a resident of Mermaid Beach, as well as the members present.
Bob Jordan advised of a ‘Working Bee’ at the Hub on Tuesday 22 February to prepare the room for the meeting.
Neil Baldwin mentioned the Pre-Release of the Movie The Duke at Robina Cinemas on Wednesday 23 February 2022 (fundraiser for Polio Plus presented by Burleigh Heads Rotary) and it was encouraging that at least 12 participants from our Club – members and Partners have booked to attend.
Harold Busch provided information to the Meeting that in response to the Board’s decision of reducing the Mobility Scooter Fleet to 50 participants, the Fleet currently stands at 52 participants.
President Peter Dimond was nominated as the Club’s Voting Delegate at the Business Session to be conducted at the District Expo at Tenterfield in March.
Dinner – Pie, Peas, Mashed Potato and Gravy was served.
Sergeant Neil Jones conducted an entertaining Fines Session which included some Trivia Questions and Andrew McTaggart was awarded a Rotary Christmas Cake for correctly responding to the Trivia Questions. Neil managed to extract funds from most members, ably assisted by Bunyip Grahame Werrell.
Raffle winner was Tony Lewis and Noel Hodges was successful at Heads and Tails.
Jim Hawkins introduced our Guest Speaker Helen Cornelius a member of the Customer Experience Team from Gold Coast City Council. Helen introduced us to the new Gold Coast City Council Mobile App – where we were encouraged to load the App to our Mobile Phones. We were then provided with a walkthrough of the App and the type of information that is available and the types of ‘Report a Problem’ that can be easily logged. At the present time and as the App has only been recently released an average of 100 Problems are being lodged daily.
Helen took questions about the App and how it will aid both the Council and Citizens in the upkeep of the Gold Coast.
Jim Hawkins thanked Helen for her presentation and made available a Broadbeach Glass as a thank you for the presentation.
President Peter thanked everyone for their attendance and closed the meeting at 7.55pm.
