SURFERS PARADISE ANNUAL RACE DAY
This year the Surfers Paradise Rotary Club's Annual Charity Race Day will be supporting the Malaria Vaccine Project.
As our Club is one of the four Sponsor Clubs of the Malaria Vaccine Project it would be great if we are able to get a table or two together to support the event and ultimately the Project.
Neil Jones as our representative on the Malaria Vaccine Project Committee will co-ordinate our effort. Please advise Neil of your interest.
COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK PAGES
A recent decision of the High Court of Australia held that media publishers are liable for defamatory third party comments posted on their social media pages because by facilitating and encouraging the comments they assist in their publication.
The decision has important implications for Rotary Clubs with Facebook pages.
Put simply, the decision confirms that an organisation or person opening a site or post to comments by others may be liable for any defamation in the comments others then make. Larger organisations may be able to track, vet and remove problematic posts quickly, but for individuals and organisations without continuous site monitoring, their risk from third party posts might be more difficult to control or mitigate.
All Rotary organisations should review their risks on their social media pages and switch off or restrict comments. Where comments are invited or permitted, they should be vetted daily and any suspected of being defamatory should be taken down immediately.
