Fellow Rotarians and friends
A great night again at the HUB. The cooks and their associates are to be congratulated. Noel Snr, Noel Jnr and Grahame handled the cooking with panache and looking at all the clean plates after dinner, it was obvious that the food was much appreciated. Special thanks to Noel Snr and Kay for all the extra work they did and thanks to Pat for her valuable assistance in getting it all set up. The leftovers went to the Crisis Care Centre to feed the disadvantaged in our community so nothing was wasted.
We welcomed Rev Jon Brook as an Associate member last night. An associate is not a Rotarian.  An associate pays minimal fees and is expected to attend meetings as often as they can. At the end of the Rotary year they decide to become a full Rotarian or cease the associate membership.
The flood relief money has been despatched to Charleville and by now may well be circulating around the various communities. Thanks to all for the input regarding this decision.
I need volunteers to help me organise the Christmas party for the grown ups. I can do the menus and arrange with the Hotel re arrangements but I need a small committee to arrange the fun and festivities. I have absolutely no expertise in this area so need help. Please let me know if you can help.
Next meeting is the Police Office of the Year. This is the jewel in the crown for us so I hope many of you will be there to support this great night. Treasurer Noel is sending an email to give details re payment. You must prepay as there will be no one on the door on the night. Hope to see you all there.

Yours in Rotary

Pauline

There seems to be a story to be told and anecdote to be laughed at throughout my life’s journey thus far!
However, this one anecdote sticks out in my children’s minds… they will never let me live it down.  As the story is retold time and time again the knife gets longer and the scar grows!
Many years ago between my stints as a Newsagent in Canberra and my position as Box Office Manager at the Canberra Theatre Centre I decided it would be a great idea to enrol in several cooking courses at the local TAFE during the evenings.
On one particular evening, I had worked a long day and raced straight from work to my cooking class.  At the end of class I was of course a tad tired and just threw my cooking bag into the front seat of the car eager to head home with my mind racing about the evenings class.  As I was getting into my car another car came dangerously close to my driver’s side leaving with me no choice but to jump into my car without a second thought.  However, whilst I dodged the oncoming car I promptly realised that in quickly jumping in to my car I landed on my cooking bag which was full of super sharp knives and one very pointy dangerous carving knife sliced into my tender little bottom.  I then drove with slow precision to the closest hospital as the knife was implanted in my bottom and tears raging down my face and my pride well it went out the window. I needed the Doctor to remove the knife immediately the pain was intense and my vanity was not intact but that knife had carved its last piece of meat – that was for sure.  I can only imagine the laughter and the story telling that went on in the emergency department that evening when a middle-aged gentleman slowly limped in with a knife strategically stuck in his bottom.  Arriving home to my wife and family where I expected sympathy and all I got was continued laughter made me realise just what a silly thing I had done and had a giggle too!
Long story short my cooking days were short lived and Diana always said I was easily recognizable due to my knife wound and to this day I still have the scar from approximately 40 years ago and my kids will continue to remind me with much hilarity about safety in the kitchen and handling of knives….

Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) to Rotary District 5020 west coast USA and Canada in July 2019

Rotary Friendship Exchange is open to all Rotarians and partners. The exchange is for 2 weeks, with the team members being hosted with Rotarians from the west coast of USA and Canada, the area including Seattle and Vancouver Island.

You can apply to be part of a team of up to twelve, to participate in this great Rotary experience of culture, friendship and hospitality from 2nd - 16 July 2019 in District 5020. This is a very popular area for Australians to visit and could provide a great opportunity to visit other parts of USA and Canada either before or after the exchange – eg cruising the Inside Passage, seeing Alaska?

Rotary travel insurance will cover the exchange plus up to 60 days private travel.

The incoming visit to our District by Rotarians from District 5020 is planned to occur in November 2019 and clubs of outbound team members are expected to host the inbound team, during their 14 - 15 days experience within District 9640.

Team Membership Application is attached or can be obtained from

RFE Chair Wendy Scarlett on 0407 130449 or email: wendy.scarlett51@gmail.com

Completed Applications are to be submitted to the District Rotary Friendship Committee by Wednesday 7th November 2018

Proposed Rotarian Action Group for Women and Youth

You are invited to be a founding member of a Rotarian Action Group for Women, Girls and Youth– WRAGGY.
RI requirements are that we have 50+ members ahead of submitting our application, which we are on target to achieve by the end of the month.
Founding members will participate in the structure and operation of the new RAG including voting in the members of the Board. Fees will be part of the discussion.
The plan will be to use the group to promote members’ projects at Rotary conferences and conventions to encourage female and youth engagement and leadership.
Currently the female membership of Rotary is around 22 percent and the average age in clubs is rising dramatically. We need to find ways to attract and retain women and youth and have Rotary influence similar leadership changes in our communities.
What will you get out of belonging to WRAGGY? Think of it as ‘value added’ for your Rotary membership!
Email me Catherine.r.bonifant@gmail.com asap to be included as a Founding member of WRAGGY.

Scribe Grahame Werrell
A big thank you to Grahame who was not only one of the top Chefs for the night, but also the Scribe.

There was movement and numbers gathering at the Hub for the word was out that the DREAM team were cooking tonight.

Some 37 members and partners enjoyed a three course dinner, for which Dr Graham Sivyer who provided his usual excellent musical background during the night, commented that it was perhaps the healthiest meal we have ever presented.

Sergeant Kevin introduced President Pauline who welcomed all members, partners and guests present.

Ray Milton updated those present about next week’s Police Officer of the Year function, John Monks reported on the Scooter program and that we have received a grant of $35000 from the Gambling and Community Benefit fund, and Noel Hodges gave his Finance Report.

The raffle was won by Bruce Kuhn and Heads and Tails was won by Kay Hodges

The highlight of the night - The 3 course Cordon Blur dinner which commenced with Nibbles consisting of cold meats, cheese, biscuits etc. that got the taste buds working. Our main course offered Marinated chicken Kababs, Atlantic salmon, Grilled Asparagus, Greek tossed salad, Potato salad, Cold slaw, Dinner bread rolls, plus a late edition of some Pork sausages with Feta and honey.

Chief Chef Noel slaved over his home oven and presented two beautifully cooked cakes-one Chocolate and one Carrot. Attached photo shows members lining up for Cake Cream Ice cream Water melon and Rock melon.

Pleasing for us cooks was the news that the club has made a profit of some $500.

WEEKLY LAUGHS
A New Age Church opened about thirty minutes’ drive from my house so I decided to go and check it out.
It was a rough area with a high crime rate but the people were very friendly and welcoming.
The Pastor approached me three times during the service and placed his hands on my head, each time repeating “You will walk, You will walk, You will walk."
I kept telling him there was nothing wrong with me that I could walk
By golly that Pastor was right. When the service was over and I went outside my car had been stolen.

One day my housework-challenged Husband decided to wash his Sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, 'What setting do I use on the washing machine?'
'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?'
He yelled back, ' Brisbane Broncos !'
And they say blondes are dumb...

'It's just too hot to wear clothes today,' Jack says as he stepped out of the shower. 'Honey, what do you think the neighbours would think if I mowed the lawn like this?'
'Probably that I married you for your money,' she replied.

Two atoms are walking down the street. One says, "I think I lost an electron.
The other says, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm positive."

Q: What do you call an intelligent, good looking, sensitive man?
A: A rumour

Q: Why do little boys whine?
A: They are practising to be men.

Q: What do you call a handcuffed man?
A: Trustworthy. .

Q: How do you keep your husband from reading your e-mail?
A: Rename the email folder 'Instruction Manuals'

Q: What did one plate say to the other plate?
A: Dinner's on me tonight!

Q: Where did the spaghetti go to dance?
A: The meat ball!

Q: Why did the teacher write the lesson on the window?
A: He wanted it to be clear.

Q: What squeaks as it solves crimes?
A: Miami mice!
