Rotarlight 2023/24 #11 (Dec 12, 2023)

Fellow Rotarians and friends,

A fantastic night was had by all the members and guests that joined us for our Christmas party at the hub. Thankyou once again to our inhouse chef Kouma. If any members would like a baked ham for Christmas, please let me know by 21^st December. Chef Kouma is cooking half and full leg hams, baked with a bourbon and maple glaze.

Thank you to all the members and partners that are helping with the Bunnings BBQ on Christmas eve. I’m sure this will be one of the busiest BBQS for the year.

Our Christmas toys have all been delivered to Gold Coast Uni Hospital and Pindara private hospital and once again every single child in hospital this week will receive a present. Thank you to all the members of Broadbeach Rotary Club , SPG Lawyers and staff, Benowa Gardens Newsagency staff and customers, also Phil Langdon Agencies.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas also a very Happy New Year.

Polio update: Closing in on zero

Wild poliovirus is still circulating in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Last year, the variant poliovirus was detected in a few previously polio-free countries — a stark reminder that if polio exists anywhere, it’s a threat everywhere. To get an idea of the recent progress made and challenges met, the Rotary magazine team sat down with Aidan O’Leary of the World Health Organization, Melissa Corkum of UNICEF, and Omotayo Bolu of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Christmas Toy Drive

Once again our Christmas Toy Drive has resulted in every child in the children's wards at Pindara Private and Gold Coast University Hospitals this week will receive a Christmas Gift courtesy of Broadbeach Rotary Club and our supporters.

Thirty three members and guests gathered at The Hub for our Annual Christmas dinner and were not disappointed with the company, fellowship and catering provided.

President Andrew welcomed all and kept the formalities to a minimum, simply thanking everyone for the children's Christmas gifts donated, a good sample of which was on display.

Chef Kouma did not disappoint with an excellent Christmas offering comprising entree, main course and desert.

To conclude a very relaxed and enjoyable evening President Andrew presented Chef Kouma and daughter with a small gift as a token of our appreciation and closed the meeting wishing everyone a happy and safe Festive Season.
