President’s Report following 16 July 2024 Meeting

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

We had a very enjoyable Fellowship Meeting at The Hub on Tuesday 16 July 2024, with 17 in attendance on a cool
evening. Great to welcome Denise Jordan and Barbara Burnheim as well as Honorary member Kevin O’Brien to
our meeting.
Another great meal prepared by Chef Kouma, which was again enjoyed by all in attendance. Thanks again to the
members for preparing The Hub for our meeting.

Past President and immediate  past Vice President Pauline Armstrong had the pleasure in Past President Andrew’s
absence to present Barbara Burnheim with a Paul Harris Fellowship. Past President Neil Jones followed this up
with the presentation of the Bruce Duncan Fellowship Cup for 2023/2024 also to Barbara – this was certainly the
culmination of a great Rotary Year for Barbara.
I had the pleasure of ‘re-inducting’ Past President Bill Rex back into Club after a 3-year absence. Very pleasing that
Bill has returned to the Gold Coast and Broadbeach Rotary, as well as his talents behind the bar.
Kevin O’Brien rolled up his own lucky number for the Raffle and I was the recipient of the last person standing in
Heads and Tails.
Thanks also to Harold for following through on our Solar issue at The Hub, with the faulty inverter to be replaced
under warranty.

It was encouraging to see the level of fellowship among all attendees and I look forward to this continuing at future
meetings.

We have experienced a week of Highs and Lows for members and our Sincere Sympathy is extended to Andrew and
Narelle on the passing of Narelle’s brother. If any members are able to assist Andrew and Narelle going forward, I am sure that will be greatly appreciated.

On a high are Carol and I as we have sold our house at Auction – our first-time experience of an Auction – and what a stressful time it was! Now for the packing and moving into our new Lifestyle complex.

Please register for our next Meeting on Tuesday 6 August at The Hub where our Guest Speaker will be Councillor Darren Taylor. Hope to see you there.

Thanks to those members who have already paid their Membership Fees as we have to pay a number of accounts from the Administration account by 31 July.

Yours in Rotary

Neil

Combating loneliness worldwide
Rotary clubs worldwide are tackling a growing global health concern – loneliness. It affects mental and physical well-being and can be caused by increased isolation like that experienced by many people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rotary members are finding innovative ways to reconnect individuals with their communities and build stronger social bonds. WEEKLY LAUGHS

Hello -- I have questions!

Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety-one?

If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...does that mean that one out of five enjoys it?

If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, then doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?

If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it Fed UP?

Do Lipton Tea employees take 'coffee breaks?'

I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use, Toothpicks?

Is it true that you never really learn to swear until you learn to drive?
Why do banks charge a fee due to insufficient funds; when they already know you're broke?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

Why is it that, no matter what color bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white?

Why is it that no plastic bag will ever open from the first end you try?

How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?
REMEMBER, A day without a smile is like a day without sunshine!  And a day without sunshine is, like..........night!!!!
