Another AGM has come and gone, thanks to PP Neil Jones for chairing. Whilst AGMs are supposed to be administrative, they are also an opportunity for members to ask questions and be appraised as to the state of club administration and finances. It is entirely appropriate that members have an opportunity to raise issues and questions and I thank those who did.

Congratulations to President Elect Peter Dimond and the incoming board. As I said on Tuesday, I take board governance and the processes very seriously, it is essential that members and our stakeholders have confidence appropriate administration and financial controls are in place, to ensure that club is ‘handed over’ on 30 June in ship shape. I am confident that the current board will ensure the club is well placed for the coming year.

In the spirit of service about self, thank you to Rotarians Russ Hutchison and Brian Pearson for their donations of $1000 and $500 respectively to the Pentecost project. Those donations will allow the club to support our ongoing projects such as the Robotics. Thank you gentlemen for your generosity.

We have a membership application from Luella Smith that will be considered by the board shortly. Luella comes with a wealth of event and fundraising experience and will be a valuable addition to the club.

The club assembly that followed the AFM covered the several points including the club finances, car show at Advancetown Hotel in 2021, club ‘protocols’, the unwritten rules of board selection and a potential car-boot sale at Benowa. On the last point I am meeting centre management this Friday to discuss.

Thank you to those who assisted at the Surfers Sunrise celebration of their 10000^thwheelchair. The event contributed around $250 into our coffers from the raffle. It was a great event, celebrating a wonderful humanitarian project. On behalf of the club, congratulations to Surfers Sunrise President, Charles Thomasson and all involved.

Thank you in advance to the volunteers for this Saturdays Bunnings BBQ. Grace from Bunnings has generously donated 20kg of onions for the cause, a reminder that a third of the profits will go to Gold Coast Neighbourhood Watch who have ‘sublet’ the event to Rotary. Next week we will hear from Daniel Riccardo and students on the progress of the Robotics project. You may recall his last visit where he spoke of the work these amazing students are doing, dreaming the impossible and making it a reality. I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Members are requested to consider applicants who might gain personal development from participating in the following Youth Programs and advise Andrew McTaggart of any possible applicants -

RYTS (Rotary Youth Transition Seminar) is designed for young people aged 16-18 years of age to develop their leadership, interpersonal and practical life skills. Participants will hear from inspiring guest speakers and participate in activities that will challenge them on many different levels. It will run from 9th to 14th January 2021.
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a youth leadership development program for young people aged 19-29. It will run from 26th to 31st January 2021. During the week long camp participants will experience a range of inspirational speakers, team building exercises and leadership training. The development of communication and presentation skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, self-confidence and self-esteem are key objectives of this program.

Christmas Cake/Pudding Orders should be available for collection (and payment) next week.

The Minutes of the Annual General Meeting have been distributed and are also available on ClubRunner under Organisation - Documents.

There is a Board Meeting being conducted after the Club Meeting next Tuesday 24 November.

SURFERS SUNRISE CLUB 10,000th WHEELCHAIR CELEBRATION

By invitation our club participated in the celebrations to mark this wonderful achievement at the Surfers Sunrise shed at Arundel on Saturday 14 November 2020 conducting a raffle on the day which produced income of $403 (less costs) for our project account funds. Announcements:

President Les advised that Russell Hutchinson had donated $1,000.00 to the Pentecost Project. Les gave a big thank you to Russell and said these funds would make a big difference to the project

The meeting gave a resounding applause in appreciation

Sausage Sizzle Rosters:

Les read out the names of the members who had agreed to man the two forthcoming sizzles and thanked them for putting their names down

The Surfers Sunrise Wheel Chair celebration had been a good day. We had raised around $410.00 for the raffle which meant we had netted around $260.00 for our club

General Business:

Ray Milton raised the issue of the recent Board Election and the process around that which he felt need a serious review

President Les discussed the Club finances through to 30 June next year

We will be seeking a volunteer to manage the proposed car show at the Advancetown Hotel

Chub Protocols; the unwritten rules of Board selection, Presidency. If these are accepted protocol then the constitution may need amending

President Les is meeting with Centre Management at Benowa Village this Friday to discuss a potential Car Boot Sale. Harold reported he did not think we would get back to Carrara
