Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

A big thank you to our guest speaker this week Bruce Paige. Bruce shared his experiences as the channel nine news reader. DG nominee Lisa Hunt explained to us about the voting process for the regionalisation model. Please remember to email or text me by next week with a simple yes or no. We are voting on the regionalisation pilot only and will vote again after the pilot.

We have 4 Bunnings BBQs in October and November.  Friday 7th Oct, Sunday 23rd October, Friday 4th November and Sunday 6th November. Saturday BBQs will commence in December. Please register via the website if you can assist.

Build peace through Rotary
On the International Day of Peace, 21 September, districts can build peace by designating a district Rotary Peace Fellowship subcommittee chair for 2022-23 if that role is vacant. These leaders coordinate peacebuilding activities and help recruit applicants for Rotary Peace Fellowships.
Clubs and districts can also encourage members to:

Australian tandem bike ride raises awareness for polio eradication
World Polio Day is approaching in October, and with it, Rotary clubs around the world are planning events to raise awareness and funds for Rotary’s top priority. Recent polio detections in the U.S. and Europe have made it clear that as long as polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. In Australia, Tasmanian Rotary members Phil and Joyce Ogden set out to do their part by cycling across the Nullarbor Plains in Australia, supporting End Polio Now through a Raise for Rotary campaign. Read more about their ride on Rotary Voices and register your event on endpolio.org.

FROM OUR MEETING 13 SEPTEMBER 2022

Scribe: Tony Lewis

Sergeant Nasser introduced President Andrew who welcomed all those present including guest speaker Bruce Paige and District 9640 representative and DGN Lisa Hunt

Rock O’Keefe proposed a toast to Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II and all present stood for a minutes silence in respect of the late Queen
Peter Tomlinson proposed a toast to King Charles III

District Governor Nominee Lisa Hunt addressed the meeting about Regionalisation. (An Email detailing this concept has been sent from Secretary Neil to all members) It was noted that Zone 8 was one zone selected by Rotary International to trial this concept and that each club in district 9640 – and other Clubs in the zone – will vote on whether or not to proceed with this trial. President Andrew will write to each member requesting a yes or no vote regarding the Club supporting this concept
Generally, the idea is to give more support through projects, communication etc., to Rotary and Rotaract Clubs and thus do things better at Club level

Due to the Club having 2 speakers, there was no Sergeants session.

The raffle was won by Nayer Kaviani and heads and tails by Rock O’Keefe

PP Jim introduced guest speaker Bruce Paige
Channel 9 gold coast news presenter Bruce spoke of the coverage of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II that was prepared – very quickly – by the news team and showed a video of parts of this presentation.
On a busy day there are up to 5 film crews covering stories
Bruce gave a selection of very amusing anecdotes from his career and day to day experiences he and the news team experience
PP Jim thanked Bruce and presented him with a unique Broadbeach Rotary Club glass.
