Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

In June 2019 the Club completed a survey as suggested by RI.
To summarise this survey from last year, the majority of members were satisfied with their membership, were happy with the duration of meetings, felt welcome in the Club, were satisfied with the location of meetings and were happy with the number of service projects.
At Club Assembly this week, [without completing another survey], I received the impression that this is still the case.
Ongoing projects supported by us include the Police Officer of the Year, Scooter Program, Cedar and Rosemary houses, The Merrimac High School Robotics Program, Robina High School poetry and literature program, Anti Ice program, the joint combined Gold Coast Rotary clubs Pentecost Island hospital upgrade program and the RYLA program.
We have hosted Rotary Friendship Exchange delegates from the US and Canada and the GVE Team from the Philippines.
Bruce Kuhn has helped arrange and led the return delegation to the Philippines last year and Neil and Carol
Baldwin will be part of the Group Friendship Exchange to Scotland this year.
We will be arranging a delegation to Tauranga our sister Rotary club to celebrate their 75th anniversary in New Zealand in April of this year.
District Assembly in April will be attended by a number of Rotarians from our club.
Les has kindly offered to present an update at the Assembly on the Pentecost Island Project.
Our major fund raisers continue to be the sausage/sizzle at Bunnings, the car boot sale at Carrara Markets and supplemented by monthly meetings at The Hub.
Brian is arranging two further fund raising functions to be held at The Hub early this year.
We decided this year to ‘ear mark’ one of these functions for the ‘bushfire/drought’ appeal rather than PolioPlus and the other fund raiser for the Pentecost Island Project.
Nigel has also been arranging the sale of calendars to raise money for the bushfire appeal.
During our Assembly consideration was given to future Guest Speakers, Jim tells me that most spots have been filled up to the beginning of March. Tony has also forwarded a list of potential speakers to Jim for consideration.
I wish to congratulate and personally thank all Rotarians who have been involved in supporting these endeavours and look forward to serving you in my remaining six months.

Selection - District Governor 2021 - 2022
Generally in accordance with Article 12 of the Rotary International By-Laws as published in the 2019 Manual of Procedure, pages 36 - 39 (Nominations and Elections for Governors) and the Standing Resolutions (as amended) of District 9640, the District 9640 Nominating Committee for District Governor 2021 – 2022 met on Sunday 12th January 2020 and made the following decision:
That Past President Jeffery (Jeff) Egan, nominated by the Rotary Club of Mt Warning AM, has been duly selected to fulfill the role of District Governor Rotary International District 9640 for the Rotary Year 2021- 2022.
There is provision for Clubs to challenge the choice of the Nominating Committee by advising the District Governor, within 14 days of such selection, and submitting the name of an alternate candidate for the position by the close of business on Monday 20th January 2020.
Only those Clubs that submitted an original nomination may challenge and an alternate candidate must be from the original pool of names suggested to the District Nominating Committee.
In the event of a challenge as detailed above, a ballot by mail will be conducted within the District and in accordance with Article 12 of the Rotary International By-laws.

The 2020 District 9640 Conference will be held in Tenterfield and registration will open soon.

Now is the time to plan your attendance and to book accommodation.

I am unsure as to which members are interested in attending the District Conference hosted by Tenterfield from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 March 2020, but I just thought that I should mention for those interested that Early Bird Registrations (with 10% Discount) close on 31 December 2019.

Carol and I have registered and we will be taking or caravan and staying at the Tenterfield Showground from Thursday 26 and coming home on Tuesday 31 March. Hopefully we will have a number of members attending to show our support to a Rotary Club on the range

Friday 10 April 2020 to Sunday 12 April 2020 - Visit to Tauranga (NZ) Sister Club

At Easter 2020 our Sister Club Tauranga will celebrate its 75th anniversary and is inviting members of Sister Clubs Broadbeach & Kasaoka to join them for this special occasion.

A program of events is being arranged and more details will be advised. Home hosting will be available for Broadbeach members & partners but if you prefer to arrange hotel accommodation this should be done as soon as possible as Easter is a very busy time in Tauranga.

Easter is fast approaching and now is the time to firm up plans for the Club visit to Tauranga.

Please contact Neil Jones to express your interest in being part of the Broadbeach Club delegation.

FROM OUR LAST MEETING 14 TH JANUARY 2020

Our first Club Assembly for 2020 was well attended with 29 members and one visitor - Edwina Hutchison.

Neil Jones was acting sergeant in Uwe's absence. He opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and then provided a little trivia "on this day in history".

Jim Hawkins proposed a timely toast to all the emergency services respondents and volunteers who have been battling bush fires that have been beyond belief.

Sergeant Neil conducted a short fines session. Tony won the raffle and David won heads and tails.

Neil then called on President Graham to conduct the Club Assembly.

President Graham gave his report on the Club's first half year and outlined plans for the second half year which is well summarised in his report in this bulletin.

Treasurer Noel outlined the Club's Financial position and commitments in place for the second half year.

Bruce reported on the success of the Christmas Cake sales and advised that $2,200 in member contributions had been forwarded to The Rotary Foundation.

John Monks outlined the proposal to introduce a $100 per annum hire fee for scooters commencing from 1 July 2020 mentioning that this is primarily to cover the comprehensive insurance cost which continues to increase every year.

Peter Tomlinson advised that Arch would no longer be providing his support at the Sausage Sizzle. Highlighting that as a Friend of Rotary, Arch had been helping on the sizzle on a regular basis for ten years. Peter suggested the club should present a certificate of appreciation to Arch in recognition of his valuable service.

Harold reported on service projects and suggested the club should move ahead with a Pride of Workmanship or similar type vocational service project. Ray Milton suggested that we should seek the support of the Broadbeach Chamber of Commerce in sourcing suitable nominees.

Pauline outlined how some other clubs recognise guest speakers and provided food for thought for the Board.

Jim Hawkins mentioned that we have a full program of speakers until end February but would welcome suggestions from members which he is happy to follow up.

President Graham thanked all for their attendance and contribution to the meeting which closed right on time at 8.00pm.
