I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and are ready to jump in to a fun filled second half of the Rotary year.
Last night at the barefoot bowls we had a small turnout for barefoot bowls but they were enthusiastic and everyone seemed to have a good time. The District Governor, Jeff Egan, and partner Kaileen joined us for bowls and dinner. No speeches but lively conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. Jeff was kind enough to donate a book telling the story of the first 100 years of Rotary in Australia. Let me know if you would like to borrow it.
Next week is at the hotel and we will need to know numbers prior to the weekend since, if we do not have sufficient, we will postpone the guest speaker and enjoy an informal night. Most people have commented that the reduction in attendance is due to the number of Covid-19 cases at the moment so we will monitor the registrations for next week.
As was approved at the start of the Rotary year, the club has donated $500 to Kaileen’s project called Solarbuddy. It is a registered charity which aims to alleviate Extreme Energy Poverty within both Australia and the Third World.

A small but quality team of Rotarians and guests enjoyed a perfect evening of barefoot bowls at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club.
Whilst lower in numbers than previous years due to COVID, the quality of the bowls was good. No bowls delivered on the wrong bias and very few ending in the ditch.
We were joined by District Governor Jeff Egan and his partner Kaileen who both joined in the bowls and post match fellowship.
Three teams of four enjoyed a relaxing hour on the green and afterwards a well earned drink and bistro meal in the Clubhouse.

A Missouri farmer passed away and left 17 mules to his three sons. The instructions left in the will said that the oldest boy was to get one-half, the second oldest one-third, and the youngest one-ninth. The three sons, recognizing the difficulty of dividing 17 mules into these fractions, began to argue.
Their uncle heard about the argument, hitched up his mule and drove out to settle the matter. He added his mule to the 17, making 18. The oldest therefore got one-half, or nine, the second oldest got one-third, or six, and the youngest son got one-ninth, or two. Adding up 9, 6 and 2 equals 17. The uncle, having settled the argument, hitched up his mule and drove home.
