Welcome to 2019. I hope you all has a wonderful Christmas and New Year. It all seems so long ago now.
We had our Christmas party at the Quality Inn. There was an initial glitch as we were supposed to be in the first area with a lot of seating. Unfortunately they have started having movie nights in that area on Tuesdays and we were moved further down. It was great to move around but I think after 2 hours there were a few backs and feet aching. Oh well; back to the drawing board.
I am away till the 16th of January and VP Neil Jones will be standing in for me. There will be a Board meeting in that time so please direct any issues to him or Tony.
It was sad news to hear of the passing of Hermann Rogers shortly before Christmas. I hope his brief time with us recently had given him some joy. Our condolences go to his family and friends in this sad time.
The first meeting this year will at the Hub. It is being catered by Chris so you are ensured of a wonderful meal and an opportunity to start the New Year with a couple of hours of fellowship.

ALMONER REPORT - Bob Jordan
Bill Waller –still restricted to the “Moonboot” and due for reassessment on the 21st Jan. Hopefully will be at Rotary next Tuesday.
Ian Cowen- Ian is battling along with various ailments but hopefully will be at The Hub with Gay next Tuesday. Gai is also having a few problems.
Tony ,as most people know developed a blood clot in his leg and is reasonably restricted in his movements. Gradually inproving and will see a specialist on 15th Jan
Keith was visited by Uwe a few days ago and said he is getting along “o.k.”.... I will try and contact him over the next couple of days.
I have retired to the Coast, with my boat, and a few other things to look after, but I have always been a farmer and we always lived on a farm, for most of our lives. We reluctantly sold our last farm, mainly because we are all getting older, unfortunately. We still wanted to be able to do a lot of other things, so we sold it earlier than we would have liked.
Since 2003 I have been involved in Rotary Projects in the Countries close to us, Thailand, PNG, the Solomons, and Fiji. Mainly in PNG and the Solomons, because they are in the District I was in, on the Sunshine Coast, which will be part of our District soon. It is great to be able to help the people in these countries, they are so close to us, but it is a very different world, that is for sure!! I have been there around 40 times over that 15 years. It has been a very interesting, and rewarding experience, especially when I was the District Governor, and visited all of the Clubs, starting 4 new Clubs that year.
I would like to discuss the amalgamation of the three Districts, one of these days, and would also like to invite you to come to PNG, or the Solomons, with me, one of these days. I am planning to go over there again in March next year, so not too far away!!

WEEKLY LAUGHS
The Cynical Philosopher
♦ I read that 4,153,237 people got married last year, not to cause any trouble but shouldn't that be an even number?
♦ Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water.
♦ I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car.
♦ I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.
♦ When wearing a bikini, women reveal 90% of their body... men are so polite they only look at the covered parts.
♦ A recent study has found that woman who carry a little extra weight, live longer than the men who mention it.
♦ Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y?
♦ America is a country which produces citizens who will cross the ocean to fight for democracy but won't cross the street to vote.
♦ You know that tingly little feeling you get when you like someone? That's your common sense leaving your body.
♦ Did you know that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish?
♦ My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We'll see about that.
♦ I think my neighbor is stalking me as she's been googling my name on her computer. I saw it through my telescope last night.
♦ Money talks ..but all mine ever says is good-bye.
♦ You're not fat, you're just... easier to see.
♦ If you think nobody cares whether you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.
♦ I always wondered what the job application is like at Hooters. Do they just give you a bra and say, “Here, fill this out?”
♦ I can’t understand why women are okay that JC Penny has an older women’s clothing line named, “Sag Harbor.”
♦ My therapist said that my narcissism causes me to misread social situations. I’m pretty sure she was hitting on me.
♦ My 60 year kindergarten reunion is coming up soon and I’m worried about the 175 pounds I’ve gained since then.
♦ Denny’s has a slogan, “If it’s your birthday, the meal is on us.” If you’re in Denny’s and it’s your birthday, your life sucks!
♦ The pharmacist asked me my birth date again today. I’m pretty sure she’s going to get me something.
♦ The location of your mailbox shows you how far away from your house you can be in a robe before you start looking like a mental patient.
♦ I think it's pretty cool how Chinese people made a language entirely out of tattoos.
♦ Money can’t buy happiness, but it keeps the kids in touch!
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK
