Presidents Message

Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

What a great turnout for our May Fellowship Meeting, with 18 members and honorary members Kevin and Uwe in attendance. Good to see Tony Lewis back with us and thanks to David O’Dwyer for acting as the chauffeur.

It was another ‘filling’ menu provided by Kouma, which was again enjoyed by all. Thank you to the members who assisted in the delivery of the meals and cleaning up afterwards, as well as setting up The Hub for the meeting.

I was able to attend the Northern Clubs District Assembly at Boonah on Saturday 17 May, where we heard about the proposed fees for next Rotary Year, with the members of our Board considering the Club’s fee structure going forward. It was also discussed that the Insurance component levied on each member by District can be funded from the Community Fund. I am seeking further clarification on this matter.

Another item that was mentioned was the District Changeover to be held at the Waves Function Centre at Kingscliff Bowls Club for lunch on Saturday 28 June. Bookings can be made through Try Booking - Booking URL is https://www.trybooking.com/DBUHT

Something for the future is a combined Districts Conference at Royal Pines on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May 2026. This will be a combined conference with our District 9640, plus District 9560 (Northern Australia and Timor-Leste) and District 9620 (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Pacific Islands).

Back to our Meeting where Harold was successful in the Raffle and Colin with the Heads and Tails.

It was great to see the level of Fellowship that occurred at the meeting and with this in mind voting is currently underway for the Bruce Duncan Fellowship Cup, with last year’s recipient Barbara Burnheim accepting your votes, either by directly advising Barbara or Text to 0419 009 108 or email b48burnheim@optusnet.com.au The Cup will be presented at our Rotary Year in Review on Tuesday 17 June. For this meeting Chef Kouma has been requested for a special menu and the cost of the night will be advised in due course. Treasurer Noel is also to determine the best payment method for this special meeting.

Thanks to all those members who contribute to the smooth running of our club, it is very much appreciated. Remember to bring your empty cans and bottles to The Hub, so that Colin can transact them through Containers for Change, with the latest deposit being in excess of $48, well done to Colin and the members.

See you all again at our next meeting on Tuesday 3 June 2025.

Yours in Rotary

Neil

Celebrate Rotary Youth Service Month
More than 350,000 young people every year develop leadership skills and a desire for community service through Rotary youth programs. During Rotary Youth Service Month in May, Rotary members celebrate these future leaders' impact on the world. Find ways to highlight youth programs and read this blog post from Ivan Vianna, who has more than 50 years’ experience in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Ivan took part in his exchange from Brazil to the United States in 1968.
