President’s Report following 3 September 2024 Meeting

Fellow Rotarians & Friends,

Another great Meeting of Broadbeach Rotary Club with 20 in attendance including Honorary Member Uwe, Visiting Rotarian Kenneth Jensen, Barbara Burnheim, Partners Desley Daviess, Denise Jordan, Kathy Lewis and District Governor Lisa Hunt, Husband and District Youth Director Gareth and Elise a YEP Student from Ukraine.

Chef Kouma continues to spoil us with a 3-course meal that is the envy of a lot of other clubs.

The lucky winners tonight were – Raffle YEP Student Elise and Heads and Tails the

ever-lucky Bill Rex.

District Governor Lisa provided an update on District activities and was very complementary of our Mobility Scooter Project and the Mural at Lady Small Village. In an interesting commencement of her presentation, DG Lisa provided a PowerPoint presentation of the Rotary Year Themes from 2000 to date, which saw practically every Rotarian present jump to their feet when their Theme flashed on the screen.

DG Lisa highlighted that – Together People Create Change and that a Ceasefire had been declared in Gaza so that medical staff could enter and initiate Polio Vaccinations following an outbreak of Polio.

From a Rotary Foundation perspective, the Focus for the month of September is Basic Education and Literacy.

The possibility of the installation of a Peace Pole in Albert Park adjacent to the Broadbeach Rotary Rotundas is a possibility, which will be further investigated.

The overview from District Governor Lisa was well received by all present, with some associated questions.

Gareth Hunt discussed the challenge of Our Youth Our Foundation and it is worth noting that Broadbeach Rotary has participated in the Youth activities of MUNA, RYLA, RYPEN and RYTS as well as the Literacy Project at Benowa High School. Our Club’s continuing involvement in these Youth Projects is something that we as a club should be proud of.

Members thanked DG Lisa, Husband Gareth and YEP Student Elise for their attendance.

This was also extended to all our guests for the evening.

A big thank you to Cec for looking after the door and to those members who set up The Hub for meetings, plus other members who perform all the other bits associated with our club.

Next Meeting 17 September 2024, a Fellowship Night will be under the care of Vice President Neil Jones, as Carol and I are settling on and moving into our Unit on this day.

NOTES FROM BOARD MEETING 3 SEPTEMBER

Investigating a Dinner at the Robina TAFE Restaurant Greenfields in mid-November – to be confirmed.

Bank Account Balances:

Noted with thanks that all members have paid their Membership Fees.

Issues with the Solar System at The Hub not yet settled, but Plumbing issue with Men’s Toilet now rectified with special thanks to David O’Dwyer for covering these costs.

Annual General Meeting scheduled for 3 December 2024, Christmas Function 17 December 2024 at a venue to be confirmed and Barefoot Bowls for January 2025.

The Christmas Toy Drive for child patients at Pindara Private and Gold Coast University Hospital will continue in 2024.

Request to be made to Councillor Darren Taylor to see if the trees in The Hub car park are able to be trimmed from a safety perspective.

One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio

Each year on 24 October, Rotary joins with our partners, global health organizations, and public health advocates to mark World Polio Day.

World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about the actions we need to take in order to end polio for good.

All donations are matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, tripling your impact!

Calgary calls

Interesting Trivia
