Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Vocational visit this week which I believe was a great success. Family comes first but I must say I had a very disappointed grandson.
I am looking forward to out family day on Sunday. The weather man is looking kindly on us so hopefully it will all go well. Carol and Neil have put a lot of work in to make it a success. Please bring your own chairs etc to ensure you can relax and enjoy the ambience. I know Joey is taking his basketball to shoot a few hoops on the basketball court. Hopefully someone will join him to get me off the hook.
DG Terry was delighted with the success of Benowa SHS for their “Book in a Day “ project. He will be including an article on this in the District newsletter.
Registration is now open for the conference next year. Please consider going as you learn a lot about Rotary and can both catch up with old friends and make a lot of new ones.

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
 
Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Broadbeach Inc. will be held at the Quality Hotel Cnr Markeri Street and Sunshine Boulevard Mermaid Waters 4218 at 7.00pm on Tuesday 4th December 2018
The purpose of the meeting is to consider the following business:
  1. Receipt of Financial Statements and Reports – To receive and consider the financial statements and reports for the year ended 30th June 2018
  2. Election of Officers
  3. Other Business – To consider any other Business of which notice has been given to the Secretary by no later than 5.00pm on Tuesday 27th November 2018 prior to the date of the meeting.

A great evening commenced at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club, where members and guests enjoyed a wonderful ostrich (too big to be a chook) parmi, with fixings!  Thanks Harold for arranging that.  A few tried their luck in the meat tray raffle, alas someone none of us knew won it
 
Adjourning to the Polair/SLS hanger across the road, we were treated to a spectacular vocational visit.  Ably hosted by Senior Constable Geoff  Harris and Surf Life Saving crew Paul Brennan, the group was treated to an information session about the capabilities of both helicopters.  Polair One, built in 1996, is still considered one of the most manoeuvrable available.  The airframe is worth around $700k, the FLIR is worth over $1m and all up the machine tops about $4m  However, when considered as a state of the art law enforcement platform, money well spent!
 
The Westpac helicopter was incredible in terms of equipment, crew ability and the results speak for themselves.   Both Paul and Geoff were extremely generous with their time, answering many questions and it was obvious that the passion for their jobs was deeply ingrained.
