A very relaxed meeting on Tuesday 11 June 2024 at The Hub to celebrate the end of the 2-year term for President Andrew.
There were only 11 of us present, including past member Bill Rex who will be returning to our club. President Andrew organised a Malaysian/Chinese Banquet from Kampung Malay and the food was greatly enjoyed by all, with plenty of different tastes and more than enough dishes.
Malcolm Daviess was the lucky winner of Heads and Tails and the Sergeants session just saw each of us contribute the change that we had.
We noted with success Andrew’s 2-year term which included the finalisation of the Mural and Garden at Lady Small Village and the successful Christmas Gift Project for children in Pindara and Gold Coast University Hospitals.
On a sad note, it was the final Club meeting for Bruce Kuhn – transferring to Murwillumbah Central and Barbara Burnheim.
President Andrew thanked everyone for their attendance and reminded us about the Changeover at The Hub on Tuesday 25 June 2024.
Summary of District Conference
The District Conference was held at Ballina RSL Club 17-18 May 2024.
There was a lineup of great speakers, as follows:
Professor Michael Good with an update on the Malaria Vaccine Project
Father Morgan Batt – Parish Priest of Burleigh Catholic Parish – a truly remarkable person as well as a noted International Alpine Mountaineer.
Fay Jackson – with the Topic of Mental Health
Damian Loone – the Lead Detective on the Lynette Dawson investigation
Kirra Pendergast – Online Safety Project
Craig Foster AM – former Socceroo and Social Justice Advocate – an interesting aspect that Craig spoke about was the parity that had been reached between the Socceroos and Matildas with respect to revenue sharing. I think the Socceroos are benefitting from the success and love from the public for the Matildas.
Michelle Tanner – From New Zealand – Rotary Give Every Child a Future
Concluded with a Panel discussion on Domestic and Family Violence.
This was an enjoyable District Conference and I encourage members to attend these Conferences when they are able.
