Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

A big thank you to our District Governor Karen Thomas for visiting us at the hub. Karen was very impressed with the hub and interested how the club managed to achieve such an asset. Hopefully District 9640 can use the hubs facilities and help us achieve its full potential.

John Naysmith was our visitor from District 1010 in Scotland. Banners were exchanged and John enjoyed his night at the hub.

Our next Bunnings BBQ is on Friday 7^th October, please register if you can help with either the morning or afternoon shift. Our last Friday BBQ raised over $1150 and this all helps towards supporting our club and the very important scooter program.

Please don’t forget to register for next Tuesday 27^th September, at The Mermaid waters Hotel. Our guest speaker is Tabitha Brown who is a penguin keeper at Seaworld and will share her experiences working with the penguins. Most definitely a guest speaker not to be missed.

50th Anniversary Celebration

Meeting was opened by Chairman Neil Jones who introduced the President to the rostrum.

President Andrew welcomed every member and the guests: John Naysmith from the Rotary Club of Arbroath, Scotland, and the District Governor, Karen Thomas.

At each place setting there were individually named envelopes and Andrew asked us to open them. Inside was an invitation to our 50^th Anniversary Dinner on 26^th November Also to be invited will be the Sister Clubs and past members.

John Naysmith was invited to inform the Club about his Club in Scotland, then he exchanged banners with President Andrew.

Neil conducted an amusing Sergeant’s Session with members fining each other or recounting good things that have happened to them recently. Most fines seemed to hinge around that funny game, AFL. Apparently, there is a much-anticipated Grand Final coming up, and many parochial comments were shared.

Next week’s meeting will be at the Mermaid Tavern with the Guest Speaker being a Penguin Keeper.

Sausage Sizzles are coming up and members are asked to book in via the website.

DG Karen addressed the Club and stressed the areas of focus for the year. She stressed the need for diversity, equity and inclusion, as these are important in member retention. She mentioned the need to recognise visible and invisible disability and stressed that we should look out for these in our members and offer a helping hand. As a prop, she gave out small bags of liquorice All sorts and used these as a demonstration. DVI Chair, Prue Berry, is available as a Guest Speaker.

Karen also informed us that the Rotary International theme logo for this year was designed by a Melbourne Indigenous artist – fitting, as the RI Convention is being held in Melbourne – and explained its symbolism.

Blood donation was emphasised.

As Karen’s partner had passed on, this year there is no “Partner Project”, so she has proposed a “DG Project” of supporting “Angel Flights”.

The District Conference is on in Yamba on 10 – 12^th March, 2023

President Andrew handed a cheque of $500 towards our contribution to the DG Project, then closed the meeting at 8.07pm
