Joint Fellowship Meeting with Southport

Southport Rotary Club members will be joining us for a joint fellowship evening on Tuesday 30 January at the Broadbeach Rotary Hub.

More details later but usual timing (6.00 for 6.30pm) and cost ($25 per head) for Hub functions will apply.

The “Fun with Rotary” Conference

District Governor Darrell Brown, together with host Rotary Clubs Surfers Sunrise and Gold Coast, invite you to come for Fun with Rotary at the fabulous Sea World Conference Centre on the Broadwater at Main Beach, Gold Coast.

The Conference Committee has been working hard to create an experience for you that is fun, exciting and inspirational. Only three weeks before the 2018 Commonwealth Games, you’ll be engaged in great activities with very special people from the moment you arrive.

The whole program is designed to make sure that everyone who attends feels welcome, involved, gets fully inspired and recharged, and most of all has FUN With Rotary.

Results From Council on Resolutions 2017 Vote

The Council on Resolutions meets online each year. Representatives from all of Rotary’s districts vote on resolutions that clubs, districts, the RI Board, and the General Council or Conference of RIBI have proposed. The RI Board of Directors will then consider all resolutions that the Council adopts.

What are resolutions?

A resolution is a request to the RI Board or The Rotary Foundation Trustees to take an action that is outside the purview of the constitutional documents. Ideally, a resolution should affect the Rotary world, rather than address local or administrative issues.

Who votes on the resolutions?

Representatives from all Rotary districts vote on resolutions proposed by clubs, districts, the RI Board, and the general council or conference of RIBI.

Representatives are chosen for three-year terms. The 2017-20 Council representatives will vote in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 COR

The 2017 vote took place from 15 October to 15 November.

Results have been published and any Rotarian can now view the resolutions and the results of the vote.

January is Vocational Service Month

Vocational Service is one of Rotary's Avenues of Service. Vocational Service calls every Rotarian to:

• Aspire to high ethical standards in their occupation;

• Recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations, and;

• Contribute their vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.

Rotarians, clubs, and districts should implement the following strategies in their support of Vocational Service:

• Strengthen the emphasis on vocation and classification in new member recruitment and induction;

• Identify means of emphasizing vocation in club activities;

• Create a stronger emphasis on business networking with integrity in Rotary at the club and district level;

• Focus more attention on business networking with integrity as a means of attracting and mentoring the new generation;

• Emphasize the connection between the Four Way Test and the Rotary Code of Conduct and their importance to the values of Rotary.

When professionals join a Rotary club, they do so as a representative of their classification - their particular business or profession.

Rotarians have the dual responsibility of representing their vocation within the club and exemplifying the ideals of Rotary within the workplace.

One of the central goals of Vocational Service is to promote and advance Rotary's high ethical standards. Two useful tools Rotarians have to assess these standards are the Four-Way Test and The Rotary Code of Conduct.
