President Cheryl reports that Razia will be in the States in March and April.  She will be speaking at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, in Los Angeles and in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  Khaled Hosseini, author of the Kite Runner, will be speaking in Boston at One Post Office Square in April to raise funds for the DeSubs girl’s school.  The author of the book on Razia and her school has won an award.

 

The difficulties with the Rotary grant for the computers for the Afghan Girl’s school have been resolved.

 

Rotary, at one time, sold Duxbury Duck license plates at The Studio.  The gift shop has turned over $167.00 in proceeds from those plates.  Also in previous business, Abdul collected funds from the sale of a duck that was sold last year.

 

Steve emailed the placemat listings but there was a problem in downloading it.  He will try to send it again in another format that will be more easy to download.  Also to be sent are sample letters created by Michelle Conway and Fred to help sell placemat ads.  Groups of two are canvassing the business areas to get ads.   

 

SCHEDULE: Feb. 18, a morning meeting.

March 1, Rotary Foundation Winter Ball and raffle.

March 7-9 Pets, President Elect training Seminar.

March 11, evening meeting.  Steve and Linda will present a program about their African Safari.

March 21,Rotary Community Appreciation Dinner.  Our club can nominate someone in Duxbury who is not a Rotarian.

March 22, there will be a Rotary Leadership Seminar in Lincoln RI at the Amica Mutual Insurance Co.  The deadline to signup is April 12 and the club will pay the $75.00 fee.

June 28, a Saturday, is the date for the Duck Race.

 

FINES/RAFFLE: Bob Hebb has a birthday.  Jack and June are celebrating 58 years of marriage.  Fred and Diane will be speaking to a sold out audience on “”Monogamy” (secret word) Does Not Have to be Monotonous” at the Miramar Retreat Center.

RAFFLE: Jack won $7.00 in the raffle.

 

Paul enjoyed his vacation in St. Martins and made up three Rotary meetings.  There are four clubs on the island.  The women in the club that he visited are very proactive promoting education for kids and adults.  There are 22-24 members from several different countries.
