DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

President Steve made recognition of December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor Day.

Steve will be attending two meetings with “Habitat” (secret word) groups to see if they would be able to assist us in building veteran’s housing in Duxbury.  January 5, he and Paul will meet with the Duxbury Housing Trust to promote the idea.  The Selectmen are positive about the idea.  He hopes that other groups will join us in support including the Legion, the Lions and the Kiwanis.

For at least the last six years Rotary members have contributed gifts at the Holiday Party to children from abused families.  Housing Solutions, formerly South Shore Housing, provided the list.  Steve gave an example of how effective this cause is in helping abused women.  When he first met with some of the mothers, they exhibited how beaten they were, showing that they had no self-esteem with their heads bowed.  Six months later, with help from the charity, the members were animated and talking to each other and could look him in the eye.  South Shore Housing first provides a home and support then shows the women how to support themselves by finding jobs and how to acquire their own housing.
