DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

BRIDGE September 7, 2016 for the Director’s Meeting Sept. 14

“ALL MEMBERS” (secret) ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE DIRECTOR’S MEETING, SEPTEMBER 14 AT 5:30 PM AT STEVE’S HOME.

President Steve reviewed and discussed the list of suggestions that Bruce Rutter drew up to improve the Rotary meeting experience.

Open to the public/for the public:

Invite important town officials to speak about their departments and their view of the workings of the town.

Invite service clubs to introduce themselves and speak about their missions.  How do they benefit the community in a dramatic way?  Could we team up with them to do a major project?

Fred brought up - how do you define success and what is the outcome of your efforts.

Steve suggested affordable housing for vets in Duxbury.  Paul thought the American Legion is also looking in that direction.  Fred suggested creating a debenture bond where investors would invest their money for up to twenty years with no expectation of earning interest.

This fits in with Michelle's idea of having a bank or banks take on the servicing of current Habitat for Humanity mortgages by "purchasing" the mortgages from Habitat thereby returning cash to the organization.

Veterans housing might be more of interest to local townspeople if the homes were built in Duxbury.  The efforts in Plymouth would not be neglected.

Outings

Members liked the idea of an outing to Howland’s landing and attending a movie at the Plymouth Cinema at Plimouth Plantation.

Trivia Night will be postponed until February 2017 due to the shortage of time to get ready for the proposed October date.
