President Fred reported that he had a successful visit with the Duxbury Business Association in promoting The Good Neighbor Fund.  Consideration is being given to joining the DBA, which will cost $100.00 per year.  He will be speaking to the Council on Aging on Oct. 8.  Fred stressed when speaking about the gaming table sponsorship, it is imperative that dealers are Rotarians.   Merchants are being encouraged to sell tickets to the Casino Night. Marge Canty, Bruce and Fred are working on a poster to advertise Casino Night.  If a merchant wants to sponsor a table, but not be a dealer, he can.

Bob Johnson and Bill spoke about Community Outreach.  In addition to the Good Neighbor Fund, giving prospective donors the list of charitable projects done by the Duxbury Club has helped in getting sponsors for the gaming tables and contributions for the GNF.  The Clipper has supplied good support and added visibility to our efforts.  The seniors are already looking forward to the New Year Eve party sponsored by Duxbury Rotary.  The revitalized Duck Race has been a great way to promote Duxbury Rotary. An outreach project that Rotary could sponsor, with the help of the Duxbury High School wood working shop, is building ramps for the handicapped.

It has been seven years since Razia founded the girl’s school.  The girls, who started in the program, will be graduating in 2017 and Razia would like to continue their education with training in teaching, nursing, administration and computer science.  She has bought land and hopes to build a new facility for the continuing education students.  The school also has a need for funds for clothing for the girls and firewood to heat the building.

Now, the need is great to buy a bus to transport the students to school.  The students need to walk long distances to attend school and they are being harassed on the way so the bus will make a difference.  Razia is trying to raise $30,000.00 for the bus which will include a driver, maintenance and gas for a year.  She will be speaking about this and the expansion at the Senior Center on Oct. 19, 3:00-5:00 PM.
