President Fred introduced the theme of the evening program, the needs of returning veterans.  He showed a video of a veteran entering a bar and being welcomed back but with no follow up.  Veterans deserve more than a toast and Fred is suggesting helping with housing.

As promised, Leigh Fuller a minister with Church In the Woods accompanied by Mary Lou O’Connell spoke about the “homeless” (secret word) and their efforts to make life better for them.  Leigh, also known as Crocodile Don Lee, and his wife deliver food and living supplies on a weekly basis to 25 homeless individuals who live in the woods in Plymouth and 35 in Brockton.  Some of these are veterans.  Leigh considers that love and compassion are just as much needed by the homeless as the material items.  President Fred is searching for ways that Duxbury Rotary can help, particularly with micro housing.  Mary Lou is in charge of the Lions Club’s Duxbury Food Bank.  When she has surplus food donations, especially from Trader Joes sho are very generous, she contacts Leigh so that he can distribute it.  Because of limited resources and the great need, Duxbury Rotary will be contacting the Rotary clubs of Plymouth and Brockton to see if they can help.  More about the Church in the Woods MA can be found at LeighFuller777@gmail.com , or  http://churchinthewoods.net/ or 508 728 2632.

Mary Lou had a list of non-perishable items that are needed by the food pantry.  She and Leigh also distribute clothing and would welcome contributions.
