DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

BRIDGE November 30, 2016 for the meeting of Dec. 7

Bob Hebb inducted Karl Kunz our newest member and Steve was his sponsor.  All members welcomed him after the induction.

Steve reported on the award that the club received from Housing Solutions (formerly South Shore Housing) for supporting holiday gift giving to the children of abused parents.

For the Holly Day tree lighting, Paul was thanked for his arranging the lighting, tent, cookies and delivering the hot chocolate, which was prepared by Joanne Moore, the Director of the Senior Center.  Cheryl got the napkins.  Bob J. arranged for the 150 voice choir from the Duxbury High School.  This year, Steve made it a point to make the public aware that it is Rotary that sponsored the tree lighting and Santa.

Steve and Paul gave an update on the efforts to provide housing for Veterans in Duxbury.  The Legion and possibly the Lions will assist us.  Paul, with his experience dealing with governments, warns that this could be a long process, 5-7 years.

Bob J. is ready for another Trivia Night with a possible date of February 18.

Possible future guest speakers include Senior Center Director Joanne Moore speaking about a building expansion for the Center.  Also, Bob has friends who speak about travel.

GUESTS: Dwight Smith, a  previous member, was invited by Bob Hebb to attend the meeting.  He had sad news of the passing of his long time friend Elisabeth Gerry.  He did liven up the meeting performing his old roll as the Sgt.-at-Arms by fining the members.  Doug Dromey invited his father Tom to attend the meeting.

FINES/RAFFLE: Dwight fined Fred for a new gas insert and Steve for a new box spring.  Fred had arranged for cards to send to Jack and Abdul who have had some health issues.  Bruce R. had good news that he got a return on a prospectus he sent out advertising that he provides freelance writing for higher education.  Michelle’s father who was very sick is much better after an operation.  Bob J. is celebrating a birthday.  Preston won $2.00 in the raffle.
